of testing with pretty darned good results, and I think he becomes an official member of the "Diet controlled diabetic kittehs of the universe?"

Would a member or two kindly peek at his #s to confirm, maybe give the OK to be more than sorta excited, and suggest that we plan a party for tomorrow evening? We'd sure appreciate it!

Thanks,
Lisa and Beauregard

I am a little worried about the last few days. He has been creeping up. We like to see them between 40-120 with the majority of the time in double digits.

I think the party can be scheduled but would like you to put it off a few more days. I would like to see some mid cycle numbers to see how low he goes (or is he flat). I would maybe consider some mini doses. You have to pick a number like 130-140-150 and when he hits that, give him a mini dose. (this could be, literally, a drop of insulin.)

Can you get some mid cycle numbers overnight or tomorrow? Once we have some more data then we could advise you on mini dosing, if needed.

The past couple of days he's been getting tested after eating. When I talked to my vet this morning, she said it's probably normal that he goes up a little after food. It's been a really busy week at work and his food and tests have been a off by an hour or two each day. Quarter-end activities and all that. Darn it. So I could probably get one more this evening, and none tomorrow 'til the evening too.

And...did you notice and adjust for the AlphaTrak meter difference?

I didn't adjust for the AlphaTrak. (sorry I should have remembered that). Still wondering about what he does mid cycle and still see a few high numbers. We want him in double digits most of the time.

One of the ways to be sure his pancreas is working is to take a test, feed him and then test again within 45- 60 minutes. If he goes down, the pancreas is working.

Better to wait a while, get some more tests in and be sure. You don't want to take him off insulin and then have to start all over again. I know you are disappointed but I would rather be cautious.

Maybe just some more testing, the food trial and see what is going on? I would love to be overly pessimistic and WRONG!

And get some other opinions. They may think I am wrong.

+2 is 65.

I like it too! I'll try to get another test in a couple hours, if I don't fall asleep sitting here at my computer trying to get work done for tomorrow morning meetings. Ha.

Make that 2-1/4 hours after eating. Dinner at 6:00, first test at 6:20ish, second test at 8:15ish.

The magic number with an alpha track is to "add 30" to what we're used to, right?
So instead of 40-120, her "normal range" would be 70-150?
In that case, "double digits" on a alpha track number would be anything 129 or lower?

That 65 would technically worry us if he were on insulin, but he isn't. He can't be "hypo" with a number we would consider as a 35 on our meters. Because there's no insulin, except his own, pushing down his BG. Not that it matters, but if the time ever comes when Beau needs a tiny dose or two, keep in mind that for him, 65 is just perfectly fine.

That 65 is his pancreas saying "hi there! I've got this food thing covered."

Hi Carl! That's my understanding of the difference on the higher end. BooBoo's vet told me that she *thinks* the difference is on a sliding scale though, and the lower the numbers the AT shows, the difference decreases, but she wasn't absolutely positive, and didn't venture to even guess the interval of the slide. I think I'll ask her if I can take my meter in sometime next week and calibrate it to hers. Of course, I'll have to be the blood donor for that - I hope she can help me get it figured out. I heart Beau's vet.

And here's another picture of him. He's so cute!

Boo Boo looks very sweet, uhhmmm, I mean manly and panther-like.
:-D
Love seeing all the kitties pics!

He must have heard us and he wants his party! Ambg much better than the past few days. Anything else different that might account for that?

It was an early test, and about five minutes after he ate his breakfast. As I mentioned, the week has been super busy crazy insane and I've been more than a bit out of our routine. Ha. The trend seems to be that tests ~30-90 minutes after he eats are higher than those done before, or just after, he has some food. Did I enter the third one last night on his ss, a couple hours after his 60s #? I don't think I did - it was in the low 70s I think.

Last night's and this morning's #s are pretty good? Tested before breakfast, and +1 and +2. Food seems to really affect the test results! Also, last night, I went through my notebook that I keep in the kitchen and adjusted the #s on his spreadsheet (I use the notebook method 'cuz my memory sucks - I can forget the # while walking from kitchen to office to enter the number on the spreadsheet, fer Pete's sake). I had been entering all of the morning test #s in the 'before breakfast' column, but changed that to +1 (even +2 in a couple of instances) depending on how long after eating Boo got his test. It seems that most of his higher readings are in the first hour after eating. I think that makes some sense, since he's processing food and all.

Mr Beauregard really wants his party. :)

Love it! Beautiful numbers especially if we can subtract 30 from some of the higher ones. Yes, he can definitely get a rise from the food and then fall.

I am much more encouraged. (I didn't like those 160 type numbers, even subtracting 30..)

Hmmm, what do other people think about Mr. Mystery's OTJ party?

Maybe I should intrude and post in the Lantus group and ask for some opinions? It seems to have the most activity - they're a busy buncha people!

His pancreas is for sure doing its job! Love to see his PS's down just a tad more, but it looks like a party in the near future to me. :thumbup
