Good morning LL! ~O) ~O) ~O) ~O) ~O)

All 5 p's present. Tarragon is on that yucky floor again this morning. He did just eat all his breffis, which is very unusual for him. Negative ketones. I started a new pen this morning just to rule that out, but I still think it is Charlie stress induced. Tarragon is now sitting in the living room with me making sure to clean every bit of his body. I think he is working on a hairball which might be coming into play as well.

OT - I stayed up late last night watching my Iowa State Cyclones beat the OSU Cowboys. WooHoo!!! Sorry had to get that out. :-D Proud to be a Cyclone today. DH is gone until Sunday so it is me and the kids for a couple of days. That meant I had two very snuggly kitties, interrupted by a whimpering dog every hour last night. 10 trips outside in an 8 hour period meant little to no sleep. I am thinking this pain patch is keeping Charlie a little loopy and causing the nonstop whining. I might call the vet this morning and see what they say.

Have a wonderful Saturday everyone!

Re: 11/19 Tarragon AMPS 427

Tarragon is still worried about his buddy. I hope Charlie starts feeling better soon, and the stress level of everyone will be lessened.

Re: 11/19 Tarragon AMPS 427

I bet the higher AMPS is definitely Charlie related and the change in routine. Getting up that many times to take care of Charlie probably stressed Tarragon at the same time. I hope you will be able to get a little rest with all that you have to do and with DH being away. Hope Charlie is feeling a little better today.

Congrats to your Cyclones!

Re: 11/19 Tarragon AMPS 427 +2/318

Morning Melissa, I was wondering how Charlie was feeling today. Good idea to let the Vet know how Charlie is reacting to the pain patch. Does it seem to be making him restless? I bet, too, Tarragon's bg's are affected by his worrying about Charlie. Yay on your Iowa State Cyclones beating the OSU Cowboys. Enjoy your weekend alone with the kids and healing vines and hugs to Charlie. Hope the Vet can help with some answers. Keep us posted.

Re: 11/19 Tarragon AMPS 427 +2/318

He is very restless. I think he might need to poo. The first one is always the most difficult after surgery. He starting using his leg last night though. Yay for small victories!

Re: 11/19 Tarragon AMPS 427 +2/318

Hi Melissa,
I hope Charlie will continue his healing today and that Tarragon's stress level will diminish. Already the bgs are coming down. I know what you mean about all the variables in the mix!!

Have a good day and get some rest.

Ella & Rusty

Re: 11/19 Tarragon AMPS 427 +2/318

Yay Tarragon for leaving that nasty red floor! Not the place you want to be buddy. Poor Charlie, i really hope he starts feeling better soon, for his sake and Tarragon's too!

What kind of game were you watching last night?

Re: 11/19 Tarragon AMPS 427 +2/318

Morning guys - wow on the amps, but glad to see the +2. come on down tarragon. I too would think that stress is affecting mr T's numbers.

I hope Charlie feels better soon - might be a good idea to ask about the pain patch. Maybe it is causing the constant whining. poor guy.

have a great day today!

Re: 11/19 Tarragon AMPS 427 +2/318 +3/208

OK. He did this yesterday too. I am wondering if it is too much juice. Yesterday I read and read and somogyi effect. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Re: 11/19 Tarragon AMPS 427 +2/318 +3/208 Thoughts?

Yeah for the CPC for Tarragon! Well done, T! He has really come down quickly from those reds. Maybe ask Sienne?

What a rough night for you and Charlie, after a rough couple of days. I hope he continues to improve. At least the Cyclones won.

Re: 11/19 Tarragon AMPS 427 +2/318 +3/208 Thoughts?

Tarragon...please come down....gently. No advice just good wishes!

I hope Charlie is doing better and has a good poo @-) . I have no experience with a pain patch but agree it could be what's making him whine. You have your hands full but seem to be handling it like a pro! Hope you get to nap with the gang today. Thanks for stopping by our condo today. :-D

Mr T! What cha doin' up there on those nasty floors - you KNOW they aren't cleaned often....

Iowa - where? Hubby watched game too and was hollerin' for his Iowa legs also....that's really bad. You both live in Oklahoma and you're rootin' for IOWA? 'Course growing up in Texas, I root for any other team than Oklahoma too... ;-)

Hope Mr. T comes on down where he belongs and Charlie gets to feeling better. A friend's Boxer had the same surgery a couple of years ago - he's fine now.

Big hugs,

Melissa,
Got your answer in our condo - DH is from small town near Iowa City but is a weather weenie so headed south to warmer weather when he was grown. We met down here but he dragged me back up there for a couple of years to help his elderly parents during their last years. I froze my poor southern behind off! We headed back south as soon as all responsibilities were done there...don't miss the cold a bit but I loved spring up there - the air just smells better than anywhere else! I also learned what "it's too cold to snow" meant...we don't get that cold down here.... :-D

Hugs,

   "Too cold to snow" I haven't heard that in years but I know exactly what that means. We lived in South Dakota for a few years after Iowa while DH got his PhD. It made Iowa look like Florida. I am from Woodward, which is about 30 miles north of Des Moines. The air is so nice there, but I am with you on the winters.

Can you say dive bomb??? Maybe it was the juice, even though it was only 2 weeks old. Tarragon has also been out in the LR with me all morning now that Charlie is using 4 legs somewhat again. Who knows. Maybe he is just a cat.

Re: 11/19 Tarragon AMPS 427 +2/318 +4/194 +5/116

Man, Mr. T starts out pretty ugly, get embarrassed, and takes the express elevator down. Nothing like setting himself up for a bounce, huh?!! Champ is hitting the high 300's so he and Tarragon must be in cahoots.

I've missed you too!! I sure hope you'll still be coming here to Las Vegas in January so we can get together!!! My DD says she's more than willing to take your DS out!

I hope Charlie mends quickly so Tarragon can stop worrying!!

Re: 11/19 Tarragon AMPS 427 +2/318 +4/194 +6/125

That is quite a drop for T. At least he is down in a nice place. Emotions/stress can really effect BGs as we all know. He is such a sweet boy for caring about HIS dog. Hoping Charlie is on the mend and will soon be out of pain.

Re: 11/19 Tarragon AMPS 427 +2/318 +4/194 +6/125

Yay Tarragon!!! Looks like it might have been the juice! WOW!!!

You sure have alot going on Melissa with DH gone and Charlie care. Keeping you close in thought and sending healing vines to your two boys.

Re: 11/19 Tarragon AMPS 427 +2/318 +4/194 +6/125

Aww, poor Charlie  And poor you, Melissa, sounds like you have your hands full right now.

Another side effect of that morphine patch will be some constipation, you might ask the vet about a stool softener or something. We use Colace in people but I have no idea if you can give it to dogs confused_cat Hope he feels better soon, and Tarragon too! So sweet that they are buddies.

Re: 11/19 Tarragon AMPS 427 +2/318 +4/194 +6/125

I spoke with the vet this afternoon. He said metamucil made some cookies that Charlie could have that would help. So, I blocked Charlie in, ran to Walgreens and got some. Came home and the buggar wouldn't eat them. Apparently my dog, who will eat poo (ewwwww) occassionally, has become picky and doesn't like the taste of apple. ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile I ended up just breaking up to phsyllium powder I have for the kitties and putting them in some food for him. I'm suprised I have any hair left.

Re: 11/19 Tarragon AMPS 427 +2/318 +4/194 +6/125

A lab won't eat something?! That is so weird!   Some leftover effect of the anesthesia or something? Hope the psyllium works.

Re: 11/19 Tarragon PMPS 340

Wow on Mr. T's numbers. I don't blame Charlie for not eating the metamucil cookies; he says if you're going to give him cookies, he wants the real thing, I sure hope he feels better. You are such a great Bean handling everything. How's little Turnup doing?

Re: 11/19 Tarragon PMPS 340 Fentanyl Patch

Turnup is doing ok. She hangs out in the bedroom when DH is gone. The only time we have seen her is on her way to and from the kitchen and lb, and she gripes the whole way.

Well after a lot of online research, I think Charlie was having a reaction to the fentanyl patch. I talked to the vet and he didn't seem concerned but said I could remove it if I thought it was necessary. Charlie was whimpering with every breath, his pupils were huge, he was shaking like he was cold, wouldn't pee or poo and was very restless. Poor baby. It was suppose to come off tomorrow afternoon but I just spent 1/2 hour taking it off. Those things are a you know what to get off. His skin was pretty red and sore underneath. He went out and peed right away. His whimpering stopped within 10 minutes and he is finally sleeping hard enough to snore. Ah silence. The stress level in the house just went down by 1000%. He was absolutely miserable with it on. The vet tech is dropping off a different pain killer that is a pill. Just a heads up for anyone who might have one of these for their fur babies in the future.

Re: 11/19 Tarragon PMPS 340 Fentanyl Patch

Hi Melissa! I'm so glad you figured out the Fentanyl patch was the problem. I'm sure that as relieved as you are that the whimpering stopped I bet Charlie is even more relieved! Hopefully Tarragon comes back down for you and you ALL get some much deserved and hard earned rest tonight.

Re: 11/19 Tarragon PMPS 340 Fentanyl Patch

Gabby's had a Fentanyl patch and tolerated it without any problem. Getting it off was a royal pain (Avon Skin So Soft, mineral and olive oil only made things stinky or slippery).

Nice to see Mr. T's numbers coming down.

Re: 11/19 Tarragon PMPS 340 Fentanyl Patch

Oh good! That is great that you figured out the patch was the problem. Poor guy. Is he eating?
Liz

Re: 11/19 Tarragon PMPS 340 Fentanyl Patch

It took a LOT of olive oil and patience on my part and Charlie's. I'm wondering if it was too high of dose. They say 30-40% of dogs don't tolerate it well.

Tarragon is doing really well today. He finally got Charlie all cleaned up and my video camera was dead. Grrrr. He has been out with us all day and purry.

Re: 11/19 Tarragon PMPS 340 Fentanyl Patch

Hi Melissa, glad you found out the Fentanyl Patch just didn't agree with him. How nice of the Vet's office to drop off the pain meds. Wishing Charlie a good night's sleep and less pain and hope you can rest more easily now, too, although I know you'll have one eye open all night on Charlie. Ni Ni

It sounds like you've had a tough couple days, but with that patch off and Charlie settling down I hope things will be calmer for the rest of his recovery.

LOL on the metamucil cookies, even though I know it's not funny! Last week, when Zen decided to boycott the pill pockets, I tried wrapping the pills in cheese. Hubby and I don't eat dairy, so my cats have actually never seen a piece of cheese before. When we tried giving it to Zen (and Noah, since he happened to be standing close by), they both looked at us with that "Huh???" sort of expression on their faces. They had no clue that it was a treat they were supposed to beg for  ! This is what happens when you never give your pets junk food....

I hope you guys are on the upswing of all this. Have as relaxing of an evening as possible!
