11/19 Eddie AMPS 358 +7 353 PMPS 320 +8 148

I read that Metronidazole is very bitter-tasting and the vet has given me a number of syringes for Eddie re: diarrhea. Does anyone have experience with this medication?

Extremely bitter, at least according to any cat I've given it to. Even compounded with flavour, the bitterness came through. The only time I had success with it was in pill form, hidden in a pill pocket and the cat didn't bit into it.

The downside of metronidazole is that it can disrupt the gut biome, making things worse. Links to some articles about that on a website. It's an antibiotic too. Did Eddie finish his course of Clavaseptin? I wonder if that AB was the one that disturbed his gut. Are you giving Eddie probiotics?

Good thing I haven’t tried giving it to him. Eddie finished the Clavaseptin but I think it may have played a part in this current situation. I’m giving Eddie probiotics so maybe I’ll just stick with those and Metamucil. I really don’t want to risk complications.
In the phone the vet asked if Eddie was going frequently and in small amounts—which he currently is—meaning there might be a larger amount that’s backed up/-I sure hope not; Blue had that happen—and allowing only small amounts to be passed.
But thanks for the heads-up re—the medication.
