I did have to start changing Mac's food because Lotus Raw Venison has been out of stock for a month. I had built up a stock of it since the last out of stock situation this summer. However not knowing when/if it will be back in stock I had to start getting him used to the new food. So I have been mixing it half and half. It does seem he has not gotten into green since I have started that.

He has been on Lotus Raw Venison. I am switching him to Raw Venison Primal.

The carbs seen to be the same about 4%. The guaranteed analysis for both was 96%. However in looking at the ingredients today I noticed that Primal adds fruits and veggies that Lotus does not. I know in humans fruits can raise blood sugar a bit.

Could this explain his recent higher BG issues? I am not going to have a choice so will continue on the Raw Venison Primal but wonder if that means he will need more insulin because of it.

This could be a red herring but looking for some reason. I found another Raw Venison by Viva Raw on line that looks cleaner. I just ordered that and will give it a try.

Thoughts?

I'm not sure about the food, but it could be. Each cat can react differently to different foods.

I hope Mac slides down today. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

The food is 4% even with fruits and vegetables? They are carbs.

I've read here that a food change (even LC to LC) can temporarily elevate numbers in some cats.

I’m pretty sure Primal is higher than 4% but the company will not say. It could be over 10%. I feed Primal and Small Baych to my girls but they aren’t diabetic.

Thanks! It just hit me this morning when I was thinking "what has changed". It may not be but at least it motivated me to look for another Raw Venison without the fruits and veggies. Hope he likes that one!

thanks! I have ordered some Viva Venison which doesn't seem to have the extra stuff in it. Hopefully it will be more like Lotus. Looks similar and minimum ingredients.

Here is what the Guaranteed Analysis says:

Primal
Crude Protein - 17%
Crude Fat 5%
Crude Fiber 2%
Moisture 72%

Lotus
Crude Protein - 14%
Crude Fat 4%
Crude Fiber 1%
Moisture 77%

Good grief! Mac looks like Shooter! You increased because it wasn't enough insulin but the increase was too much. I'm still waiting to see what Shooter does with his increase this time around. Last time it was too much. THESE CATS! lol

If you are still looking for Raw, I am going to be trying Viva Raw since Lotus does not seem to have an in-stock date. Someone I follow on the internet uses that brand for her dogs and she is really into a holistic approach caring for her doggies. I will let you know how it goes.

Awesome! Thank you!
