AMPS 412 3.2 u - NV's raw chicken
Seems he's adjusting to the 3.2 u's.
+2 321; fed NV's raw rabbit
He really likes the NV's Raw Chicken. Went out and bought more last night and also some rabbit. He seems a little hesitant about eating the rabbit, like "hmm (sniff, sniff, sniff, lick, chew) I've never had this before (lick, chew) but it seems tasty (lick, chew, lick, chew) but I've never had it before so why...darn it's all gone.

I just found a reply from Stella & Chewy's in my mailbox.

Thank you for your interest in Stella & Chewy’s. I would be happy to send you this information as we do not yet have a published nutritional profile. You will notice that the chart shows both frozen and freeze-dried as the levels are different between the two. The freeze-dried is clearly higher, but that is simply because the moisture has been removed from those products. If you were to rehydrate them, per our recommendations, the levels would be practically identical to those in the frozen.

All of our dinners are very low in carbs…the only carbohydrates in our dinners are what’s naturally occurring in the fruits and vegetables. That only makes up 0.5% of the total diet.

It looks like you may need to PM her to make it downloadable?? Or PM her and ask her to email it to you? You could download hers copy the formulas down into new rows and add in your flavors. :smile:

That's assuming it is As-Fed BTW which includes moisture. DM does not include moisture.

That page says:
"Carbohydrates is equal to 100 percent minus the protein, fat, and ash." But It's hard to decipher in context what that applies to - if that is just DM or a rough calculation from GA or what. It might apply to DM. I forget I would have to go back and do some sample calculations with known good numbers to figure that out. If you want me to resolve it let me know. FYI - I'm not so big on the raw methods or sources outlined in the above link.

So am I interpreting this correctly that she is saying that on an as-fed basis the carbs for each flavor are 0.5%?

It looks like Super Beef Dinner, Frozen [without carbs] adds up to 103.76% which seems a bit off. But this does not include carbs - so since the % is already over 100% there is no way to subtract to get the carbs. And it one added in 0.5% for carbs then it would be 104.26%. Strange. Doing this check Donna found one FF flavor with a presumed error that she corrected for.

I might email her back and say something like "it's my understanding that on an as-fed basis protein, fat, carbohydrate, fiber, ash, and water should add up to 100%, with the Super Beef Dinner, Frozen it appears [assuming 0.5% carbs] that they add up to 104.26%. Am I doing something wrong? And each flavor has 0.5% carbs on an as-fed basis?" And just hear what she says - or call her up.

Thanks, Gator. I just emailed her back. I came up with the same figure as well. Using a different carb calculation posted on the main board, it totalled a negative carb number.

Was this the 3.2 settling in? The switch to raw? Absolutely no FF today? I don't know...I'm just happy that he surfed those yellows for the longest time today.

Gator, I heard back on our follow-up question to Stella & Chewy's: "I apologize for that discrepancy. I failed to mention that the carbohydrates were in a dry matter basis, rather than as-fed. In the frozen dinners, the carbohydrates would be about 1/3 of the 0.5% overall. I’m sorry for that confusion…I didn’t realize that I mis-worded it until your email."

:lol: that just muddied the waters even more for me. :roll:

So 1/3 of the .5 = .167
+ 103.76 + .167 = 103.93% which is still the kind of discrepancy that needs explaining..hopefully. Donna found something like a .4% discrepancy on the sanity check for the FF flavors which seems plausible as a rounding error type thing.

I have the complete nutrient breakdowns that Wellness sent me for all their flavors. I trust these breakdowns. For Wellness Turkey [as-fed], protein, fat, carbohydrate, fiber, ash, and water add up to EXACTLY 100%. So that should tell you something.

You might want to email Wellness or just call like I did and get the info they furnish - it's the gold standard. I frequently go back to it to it as a reference - my own sanity check.

The food companies [except Wellness/Old Mother Hubbard] make me crazy. I've spent so much time with them trying to correct their mistakes and incompetence. I'm glad you are doing this - I might explode if I were. I'm very happy to coach you along though. :smile:

Once you get data that you are confident in, you should email it to Janet.

I've found that I end up frequently having to call them and ask for their staff nutritionist or vet [if they will let you talk with them]. It's pretty easy to sort out the sitch then - see just how much they know and how confident THEY are. I frame it in the "Can you help me with these potential discrepancies or missing info I've found. Hopefully I'm not crazy?"

It's really odd to me because I think most canned food is produced at Menu Foods and I think the Wellness breakdowns are from Menu Foods. So it makes me wonder why they all don't have this info. You can ask them where their canned products are produced - menu foods or elsewhere. You can ask them anything you like - I don't always get the answers I'm looking for though. :smile:

Stay ahead of him- 7 doses of 3.2u so far. If it doesn't keep improving, don't hesitate to sneak it up.
