Good morning!
AMPS 81 shooting .1u Finally starting in green again!
Last night I used the auto feeder for +3, +6, and +9 meals. He had a wee bit of +3 left when I went to bed, which he ate at some point. He ate about 75% of the +6. When I got up at 10 minutes past +9 he hadn't touched it yet; I stirred it, he ate a bit. I stirred it again, he ate a bit more. I scooped the rest out onto a plate and he finished it. Then we both went btb.

It's supposed to be really nice here today so I may give myself a break from editing and go for a walk. Tomorrow I am doing 8 Christmas Mini Sessions and must set up my studio this afternoon. But there is snow predicted for this weekend so I'm going to take the opportunity for a walk while it's still nice.

Yesterday I emailed Wellness and received their nutritional breakdown. Marje was kind enough to do the calculations for me so I will be populating Boomer's ss with them shortly.

Nice work Boomer except please work on eating those overnight fuds on your own buddy. I also heard you were playing with a ball last night:joyful: Enjoy your walk today and hope you can get some rest before tomorrow. We hit low temps of freezing 46 degrees last night! BTW, there is someone working on a new food chart and it would be great to share the information with them. Now I have to find the post and figure out who it is.

Yesterday Marje was kind enough to provide me with the calculation of how to determine carbs from calories (since I do not have excel and therefore cannot use Janet's calculator). I have a new tab on Boomer's ss called "Carbs from Calories Worksheet".

Take the Dry Matter % for carbs, protein, and fat and enter them in column B in the appropriate spots. Do not include the % sign. It will calculate the % from calories for you. PS the addition will be .01 out, don't worry about it :)

@Sharon14 please see above info and also Wellness provided me with info for several canned foods not just the ones I've added to Boomer's ss I'd be happy to forward their email to you. I also have information for Nature's Variety. I was going to email Purina today for their latest Fancy Feast info but possibly you've already done that?

Thanks for the info. Actually @JohnZ is doing the calculating, I'm just calling companies and getting info. We've been working with the 'as fed' values and having trouble getting true numbers from some companies. Perhaps using the DM numbers will work better in those instances. As far as Friskies (Fancy Feast) they won't even talk to us. If you get info from them, please let us know!

Since it's part of your spreadsheet, you're probably the only one allowed to edit it

You may want to start a totally new spreadsheet so you can set the permissions so anyone can edit it (and not risk having anyone editing your actual spreadsheet)
I set the permissions for the formula column to prevent anyone else editing but the column where you input amounts should be fine. Unless for these spreadsheets it's all or nothing. I will check in a bit.

Maybe I need to reboot computer totally. It's Window 10 and it is terrible! I am on my work computer so will try from home later. Thanks.

What we click on is the published version by google... where you are working is in the unpublished SS... click on your Boomers SS link in your signature and you will see what the rest of us see

If you want to share the calc you will need to share the link to your SS not the published version

But before you do i would LOCK the tabs with his numbers so that only you can change them... i doubt anyone would change his numbers on purpose but you dont want his data corrupted by a simple mistake either

Umm. Ok I have locked all of the tabs except for the calculation.
Does this work? Link I copied the actual URL.

Ok we are getting somewhere now... that is the right link but its set to view only

You need to click on the Share top right corner and set it to anyone with the link can edit as this is what it takes to input info into calc

Yes now i can but it tells me its protected and asks if i really want to put data in... which cells should we be place #s in?

Hi @Sharon14 I have an email from Nature's Variety and from Wellness. I've emailed Hound & Gatos; nothing back yet. I will email Purina to see if I can get the Fancy Feast info! I can forward the emails to you if you like; pm me with an email address if you wish.

@Shoeskitty, @Bobbie And Bubba, @Lincolns Mom, @Judy and Boomer

One thing I forgot to mention yesterday is that for the macronutrients (protein, carbs, and fat), you multiply the as-feds or DMB by 3.5, 3.5, and 8.5, respectively, because that is the number of calories in a gram. In other words, protein has 3.5 kcal per gram, carbs have 3.5 kcal per gram, and fat has 8.5 kcal per gram. If you were using human grade food, it would be 4, 4, and 9, respectively.

Great job, Judy!!!

Thanks Marje! I have copied all this data and from yesterday's thread about the calculations into a word doc to try and wrap my head around it when I am not with sinus crud ( can't think straight now) I can relate to Ella and being a math cripple and all things that require math. But, I will study this and understand it as Bubba is counting on me.

@Judy and Boomer did you ever hear back from Hound and Gatos... has anyone? the response i got was lacking...

Amber we do not include Grains/Carbs/Sugar- cats were created to eat 100% meat and not kibble. The diabetic Diet would be only 100% meat. You'll see the difference. I have diabetes and I do not eat carbs. Jacob

I tried asking again and showing what Wellness sends us... this sucks Lincolns likes the food but if they wont give numbers then i cant continue to feed it....

I hope you feel better and you know I'm always happy to help in any way.

another question.. carb % what is considered LC? MC? HC?
Amber

Judy is correct that under 10% is considered LC. MC would be in the 11-16% range and HC above that.

Some cats do better with foods ranging in the 4-6% range and some do even better with foods around the 10% range. Typically, foods in the 0-1% range might not work as well because the carbs can help offset the insulin action in the case where a cat might be one that plummets. ECID...each caregiver has to learn what works best for their kitty.

@Marje and Gracie would anyone like the numbers for the Authority soft cat food? I got 4 from them so far trying to get all the rest.. if so just let me know
I don’t know if anyone needs/wants the info on Authority. I feed a raw diet to my current kitties so I wouldn’t need it but if you need any assistance calculating the % calories from carbs, please let me know. And thanks for the offer and the info!

I'm looking at the Hound & Gatos info. They have given me protein 45%DM and fat 40.57% DM. Do I assume the carb amount is 14.43% for the calculation? The % of calories would work out to 9.14% which is awfully high considering it's 100% chicken. @Marje and Gracie ?

No....they either have to give you the carbs or they have to give you ash and fiber as well. If they have as-fed numbers, add moisture to that list. Once you get all those, then you add them together and subtract from 100 to get carbs. Then it goes in the calculator.

So...for DMB to calculate carbs, you need protein, fat, ash, and fiber
For as-Feds to calculate carbs, you need protein, fat, ash, fiber, and moisture.
