That's a nice AMPS, not too low. Since you will not be home, it's a good idea to leave food out. If you could run home at mid day and get a test, that would really help you see how the insulin is working.

I don't see any data on you SS for last night, could you please update it when you get a chance?

250 is good. Looks like the insulin is starting to work.
I agree, put food out since you do not know how low Star Cat will go while away.
And I would come home midday to do a check so you can see how the insulin is working.

You're right! I forgot to update it and the number is at home. I think it was 420??? I have to remember to enter it immediately. Thank you for the reminder.

I'm relieved that she's in a good range.

She was 367 at lunch (+4) I guess she ate too much! I am really starting to see what you mean about the dry food. All the carbs convert to sugar...?

Does she not eat overnight? Oh yes, the dry food can make a HUGE difference in their BG. It's like feeding a diabetic person donuts and cookies and expecting the insulin to manage all that sugar....lose the dry as soon as you can. I would transition over a little time though, because you are likely to see a big difference in her insulin needs and it's easier to manage by doing it gradually.

Just came back from the store, I purchased 10 kinds of Fancy Feast! :) SO EXCITED to try.

She does graze overnight. I always leave food out.

Really appreciate the analogy of donuts to a person. I am starting to get it. :)

Star cat ate the entire can of Fancy Feast grilled beef! She practically licked the dish clean! Thanks for the advice on Fancy Feast, I never would have tried something from the grocery store.

I think she liked it because it was chopped bits of food, not just a cake of mashed up food.

Sounds great!
Keep an eye on the litter box, transitioning may cause some stinky poop or worse, in some kitties, ECID (every cat is different)
You'll also want to keep an eye on testing, as the diet change could bring lower numbers, which is good, but you want to monitor as best as you can.

EDIT TO ADD: not sure if you've seen the food charts yet,...you may want to note the carb % on each flavour you purchased from Janet & Binky's Food Charts
(see the "old canned list" for Fancy Feast, or new list for FF medley's)
Anything with gravy can be used as MC (medium carb) or HC (high carb) the chart will indicate the approximate carb %.

A good idea is to mark those cans with a black marker,
as part of your Jojo's Hypo Tool Box

Wow! That was a great start!!! What a good girl! I usually add warm water to the food too....
I hope you continue to see great results like this today! Very nice!!
But as Ronnie said, the numbers can come down a bit. Some kitties do so well on just the switch over to canned foods that thier insulin requirements are drastically reduced! So keep an eye on Star Cat!!!

ouch! grilled beef is up there in the 18% range.
as per your comments on SS (spreadsheet)

Ate a can of FF Grilled Beef for dinner, but I think I messed up because the carbs are high on that brand, from what I can tell on the charts.... Her numbers were much better this morning!! Tonight is worse than last night. Will try one more check at late evening

hang in there, it'll pick up.
trial and error right?
the warm water tip from Pat, can work to stimulate their senses, to entice yummy wet fuds too! But from the looks of it, Star loves it already!

you guys will be ok :YMHUG:

Well, you inadvertently good some good data on how the 18% carbs work on Star Cat...no wonder she inhaled that food! Not to worry....it is all good. The important thing is that you began with the canned and now you know that this type will raise her up nicely. We actually get the 18% and higher with gravy...and only use the gravy to bring up their numbers. If/when they go into the greens that is...you will see how that works later on! ;-)

This number is from the higher carbs so don't worry. It will come down soon enough.
It's all a learning thing, with lots of trials and errors. You are doing GREAT....

Star cat is 417 at the +2. Coming down a bit. You win some you loose some. Guess she enjoyed that donut and cookie feast she had! I am honestly a bit overwhelmed at having to read all those choices and find the best one, then hope she will like it. I admit, I was under prepared at the grocery store and just picked what I thought she would like. She's never been big on fish. Chicken, beef, turkey, that is what she will eat from past experience. Even if we offer table scraps of fresh, cooked fish she will turn her nose up. I guess I will have to look more carefully at the list.

MY OTHER CAT wanted to eat it all - she was so excited about the canned food! I have to work on the profile so you can read all about our Benny (senior citizen, deaf and dementia kitty!!!) Total sweetie!!! cat_pet_icon

I really appreciate your support. It certainly feels better messing up when you guys reach out. She feels bad with high numbers and that makes me feel bad. Especially after her nice number this morning.

Tomorrow is a new day!

Thanks again everyone. Rebecca
