11/17 Tucker in the blues with wet food!

I had a "lightbulb" moment the other day, realizing although I had tried to change Tucker to a "better" food per the vet (prescription dry diabetic) I never tried switching him to canned. I think I was just afraid his colitis would flare again and just never tried. Stupid me!

So after thinking about how trapped I feel by being stuck home at certain times of the day for bg checks and insulin, I realized if I have any chance to get Tucker otj it was going to require a diet change. Granted, he is on a corticosteroid chronically but...

As of today he has been on canned food two days, and boy do his #s show it! I've really dialed down his insulin dosing and he has been in blues all day!!!

Please take a look at his ss and let me know if I am doing okay so far?

He is now on Wellness chicken canned with ground flaxseed for diarrhea. He also got some slippery elm last night and this morning but I need to be careful because that can decrease the absorption of the steroids if given at the wrong time...

Thanks!
Jen

Well done .....nothing like a few treats of dry food to drive Trey up I am in Canada and test x18 one day tested him at (5 x 18=90) and gave 8 temptations checked 2 hours later and he was (13x18=194) so yeah get away from dry .Vets don`t really know a lot about whats in the food just because it cost a arm and leg don`t make it good......Keep up the good work. Kath & Trey ~O) ~O) :-D

Wowsza! Let's here it for low carb canned food and those wonderful numbers in the blue! So nice that you were able to give a smaller dose..! I know whenever I give my Whitey cooked chicken with broth instead of other low carb canned food,it drastically lowers the carbs and I can always see the proven results on the BG Testing! Keep up the good work!

I was amazed by the difference the change made with my cat too. Even changing from the 25 carb cals science diet diabetic canned to a Friskies Pate under 10 was amazingly noticeable. Even if I give him Friskies mixed grill which is 11, I can see it in his numbers. I think I also read that when you are feeding your cat think more "long ears" and "beaks." Eg: duck, turkey, rabbit...

Yayyyy! What a difference. Its amazing how much diet plays a roll in everything. I know with Hidey, his key factor was diet and his teeth. He was on insulin for about 2 months and the first month was vetsulin. I got him switched to prozinc, changed his diet, had his teeth cleaned and 2 bad ones pulled and he has been OTJ for 7 months. My fingers are crossed it stays that way, but its funny how something so simple like changing food can make a difference....in animals or humans lol. Keep up the good work!
