So Tigger went to the vet Monday evening for a check up and blood work. He has a decaying tooth, which was not present on his exam in February. The vet said this tooth wasn't concerning though. He said there are two types of decaying teeth and the kind Tigger has is "self absorbing" and it will eventually just fall out/decay away. He pressed on it a lot and it didn't bother him so the vet said he felt nothing needed done. Do you think this could have anything to do with his numbers? I mean, I will definitely consider it if his acro testing comes back negative, but does anything need to be done do you think? Will it eventually just resolve? I did some Googling and am a little worried.

Second, Tigger has a new heart murmur, grade 1.5, which no vet has ever mentioned to me before. According to the vet, Acro can play a large role in heart disease, so this is just another sign that he is an Acro cat. :(

He encouraged the wet diabetic hills food. I asked him why he recommended it so much in comparison to the FF/Friskies I currently feed. He said he sees great success with cats who eat it. I assume that this is simply because it is lower in carbs than the usual dry food other owners probably were feeding? So anything was probably an improvement for them. But looking at the ingredients, it contains things like wheat gluten, cornstarch, ect. (CARBS!) so I will stick to my FF and Friskies.

He recommended a full senior blood panel and we also did the Acro/IAA testing. All said and done, I had a nice hefty vet bill of $541 dollars. He is lucky I love him so much.o_Oo_O

My night, however, only got worse from there. He was a champ in the car on the 1 hour drive there. We had the vet visit and when I went to leave, my car wouldn't start. My battery was dead (even though I replaced it in April). Got a jump and realized my cell phone was almost dead. Ended up getting lost because I couldn't use my GPS, had to stop for a cell phone charger at a gas station in not the best section of town, unable to turn off my car, worried that it wouldn't restart. Forgot my mask in the car, went back out, forgot my card in the car on the seat, had to go back out :banghead:. I was super flustered that poor Tigger had been in the car going on 4 hours now, plus he was panting and meowing. FINALLY, got back on the interstate, only to have my gas light come on. I had to stop to get gas without turning off my car, even though my husband assured me my car would not blow up when I called him frantic, haha. Five hours later, we were finally home.
It was literally a nightmare.

Long story short, Tigger's testing is done, we are waiting on results, and he is back to his normal, food obsessed self. I am never taking him to the vet alone again, haha.

Oh my, that was quite the vet visit! :bighug::bighug::bighug: Poor you, poor Tigger. I think an adult beverage may be in order for you.

For the tooth resorption you might want to read the first link in this post: Info on Dental Procedures (including pictures). It is quite common in cats.

Neko had a benign heart murmur for a number of years, before it became something more. If he does test positive for acromegaly, at some point you may wish to get a echocardiogram done, which is a heart ultrasound, preferably by a cardiologist specialist. Some heart conditions can be treated and managed quite well with meds.

Good to know! Hopefully it will be manageable if it progresses.

The vet really didn't seem overly concerned with it, and didn't seem to want to do anything. However, I wonder if I should try to get him in to be put under for a cleaning and to pull the tooth. I notice no difference with him eating or behavior.
