This was indeed an excellent guess, CD!
Venita is right, Tawny doesn't go outside much, and when she does it is 3 feet from the house, when I am out there, and she walks around for about 10 seconds and then runs back inside.
She is indeed however in frequent contact with other pets that do, and that come in thru the kitty door at will. It is set so that they can come in but not go back out, that way I can keep the inside cats in and the others will go to the people door to be let out.
The cats here get regular flea prevention treatment but sometimes one or two of the mostly outside cats, 2 of which are very feral, and 4 of which are semi feral, get missed because sometimes I can't get close enough to them to get it on them. Usually with those I bribe them with food, then sneak up on them and "dump" the flea treatment onto them, but sometimes they run off and I can't get it on them. Even though they are feral or semi feral they sometimes use the kitty door and come inside, then when I open the back door they will run back out.
So this could be a real reason for the fever, and we will definitely ask the clinic about it this morning.
Thanks!

Marjorie and Gracie said:There is a western blot test for felobart which is the cheaper, and best way to test for it. Stick to your guns on that. Many vets want to run the PCR...very expensive and will only give a positive test during an active cycle. The Western Blot will pick up the antibodies.
DD & Tinkerbell said:Marje, I googled this too and got nothing, same as Venita, what is it? Antibodies for what?
CD and BigMac said:Could she have meant this? Fel. Bartonella Western Blot
As if "fel-o-bart" was slang or jargon for saying Feline Bartonella? I saw it written as above in a list of tests from a lab.
Just a guess. :?

I have to think they have considered it, especially in such a flea-prone environment as Louisiana, but I will ask. Especially if Azithromycin is the clear ABx of choice for that infection.
