Been a little while since I've posted since her diabetes has been stable. Kidneys are getting worse. She's sleeping and peeing more. She had a few labs done yesterday that showed both high BUN and CREA. Vet prescribed Benazepril to increase blood flow to the kidneys. I'll start that this evening or tomorrow.

I didn't learn until after we left that a UTI could cause her elevated numbers and they didn't test for that and I didn't ask for it. Taking her in to the hospital is so stressful; I'm going to investigate when a mobile vet could come out.

We've got on a pretty decent schedule of Cerenia in the morning / Zofran in the evening to keep the nausea and vomiting at bay, so she's been eating well for the most part.

I don't know if you want to start this. My vet also recommended Enalapril and I didn't start it. I checked with Tanya's CKD group and they said it was good I didn't. Check www.felinecrf.org before you start. I'm on my phone or I would have shared the link to the page for Enalapril/Benazepril.

I saw Chloe's labs. Bandit had a similar jump in creatinine from 2.5 to 3.8 in 2 months. What REALLY helped her were subcutaneous fluids. Her BUN was 92 and she was peeing and drinking like crazy. Her BG also went haywire simultaneously.

We gave her 100ml of LRS every day for 3 weeks and her creatinine came down to 3.1 (BUN was down to 62 - still high). Her PU/PD has reduced with better BG numbers and I think the fluids helped so much that I was able to get her off Ondansetrom and Famotidine after 3 weeks. We are still giving her 50mls a day. Need to get updated labs done.

It is… overwhelming. I don’t know that I have much left in *me* to tackle another chronic illness for her. :(
It is indeed overwhelming and Tanya's website has just too much information. I know exactly how you feel. I felt so defeated a couple of months back. Not only had Bandit's CKD worsened almost overnight, her BG was also all over the place. For the first time in 2 years she was throwing blacks - even HI. I despaired of her ever getting better and I too thought I couldn't handle one more chronic illness. Giving her all those pills was also tough - she eats only dry food - so I had to shove them into her mouth and she absolutely hated it.

Now she is back to where she was before everything worsened. I don't think she will ever go into remission and she is as bouncy as ever. You have the advantage of Chloe's BG numbers being under control and so there is no additional stress on her kidneys due to diabetes.

Start the subq fluids right away - whether you start Benazepril or not - it will make a big difference!
