Hi Everyone. I haven't posted in awhile. Tootoo is continuing to do well in remission, thanks to all the help I got here. I do have a question. He's going to have some dental work done and had some pre-dental blood work done yesterday. Everything was normal except for his pancreatic enzymes. The numbers were amylase 2162, high end normal being 2000? And the lipase was 199, 10-195 being normal? These are the numbers I got from the vet. He has no symptoms of pancreatitis and only had the one episode during the summer.
The conversation with the vet was interesting. She was a different doctor than the one I'm used to working with. She told me that although the numbers wouldn't interfere with his getting the dental work, it would be a good idea for me to get him off the Fancy Feast and onto the DM dry because of the high fat content in the Fancy Feast. She said it would even be better for his diabetic remission to stay on the DM dry. I know this is not true, and I don't intend to put him back onto any dry food. He's been on almost nothing but Fancy Feast since he was diagnosed with diabetes in July.
Any feedback on the pancreatic numbers and what it means if anything? (And why the obsession the vets seem to have with the DM food?)
Thanks!
Debbie
