Re: 11/16 Tarragon AMPS 333

So glad to hear he's home, happy, and healthy. It's fabulous that you caught things well before it became a major problem. Things like Tarragon's situation are exactly why I'm so super-aware of every little nuance in my kitties' behavior. I can't always convince hubby when something is off...either he's in denial, or thinks I'm overreacting. But...guess who's right every time? It's so important to be familiar with their behavior, since cats hide illness and pain so well. Great job!

Have a wonderful day!

Amy

Re: 11/16 Tarragon AMPS 333

I'm so happy Tarragon is back to normal and even all P's, too! You were so in tune with him and caught it in time. Lots of scritches to Tarragon. How is Charlie today? Belly rubs to Turnup.

Re: 11/16 Tarragon AMPS 333

Aw thanks all! Couldn't have done it without the power of LL!

Amy - I am very thankful that I caught Tarragon so early. Isn't it funny how any little thing throws up a red flag? All T did was jump up to the water faucet and there were bells and whistles going off in my head. He used to do that all the time prediagnosis, but hasn't in months. I was torn as to whether to take him that night or wait until the vet opened in the morning because he was acting fine other than that and low ketones. DH said to just call the ER and talk to the vet and see what they said. The ER vet at first thought it could wait, but then left it up to me. DH has learned to trust my judgement. He was resistant early on this dance and has learned that I am usually right. One night in ER is much better than three like the last time.

Ann - Charlie is doing pretty good. He is still limping when he is tired, but we are thinking it is more that his hips are sore than his knees. He is just a big dog with a lot of arthritis and he over does it when there are squirrels and rabbits to tend to. Actually he mainly only limps after he comes inside and lays under a blanket for awhile. Just like you and me, the arthritis is a little stiff after resting and it takes awhile to get things moving again. Thank you for asking though! He really appreciates any attention he can get.

Re: 11/16 Tarragon AMPS 333

Great report on T this morning. And a good appetite too! That is great. Chow down! Charlie has important business to do, chasing those squirrels and rabbits.

Re: 11/16 Tarragon AMPS 333

Hi guys .. love this update on Mr T! I'm glad he got to the vet's so quickly and recovered so well .. Now if only charlie would slow down when he see's those squirrels! :-D Of course, as you said, it's mainly from sitting or laying to much .. I can completely understand that! Have a great day guys!

Re: 11/16 Tarragon AMPS 333

So good to hear Tarragon is feeling like his furry, purry self again, i hope this is the last for vetty visits for your clan for a LOOOOOONG time.

I've gotta say you always have to trust your instincts and i'm glad you took Tarragon in to see the vet, better safe than sorry.....right? Did they find out what was bothering T?

I hope you enjoy your day Melissa and give your boy some chin scritches for me ;-)

Re: 11/16 Tarragon AMPS 333

Oh I'm so glad to hear good news about T!!! Hurray for following your gut!

Re: 11/16 Tarragon AMPS 333

Hi Melissa, glad Charlie is okay and now has his buddy Tarragon back home. That must be so hard on him with the arthritis. I bet those squirrels and rabbits are so tempting for him to run after, but then hard on his poor joints. Give Charlie some loving cuddles from me and Maggie.

Tarragon is showing some yellows so it looks like he might be clearing the bounce off the greens last night.

OT - Charlie was lifting his good leg off the ground when I got home tonight. I took him to the vet and he has torn his acl. They will do surgery tomorrow and restabilize the knee. Here we go again. The recovery is brutal and long so I am a complete wreck. I feel so defeated right now. What a year it has been for my boys. I will be glad to see 2011 in the rear view mirror. I hate to ask after all LL has done for sweet Tarragon, but if you could say a little prayer for Charlie I would really appreciate it.

Are you kidding?! We are saying BIG prayers for Charlie and for you, DH, and T. He's going to miss his buddy. Do you think Tarragon will clean the vetty smell off of Charlie when he comes home?  We'll be thinking of you all day tomorrow and waiting for your report.
Liz

Prayers coming your way. I hope Charlie's surgery goes well and he has an easy and complete recovery. It does seem like everything is coming at you all at once! It's about time for you guys to catch a break!

It was a different vet and the tightrope surgery. This one is a much better vet who specializes in ortho surgeries and it is the traditional surgery. The last time they waited for 4 months and there was a lot of scar tissue. We caught it early this time so they won't be fighting the scar tissue.

So sorry to hear about Charlie  I have been through this with my Blue (a black lab) who tore his cruciate chasing a bunny, so I know how much it sucks. I hope the surgery goes well. We have had good luck with glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM and tramadol for pain control - we only use Rimadyl occasionally.

PS Glad Tarragon is better!

Awww...poor Charlie, and poor you. You have been through the wringer this year. Many huge prayers for you guys for Charlie's surgery...he may be a drooler, but he's a LantusLand drooler!

We'll be thinking of Charlie tomorrow and praying that his surgery will go well. So sorry you are having so much happen at once, MeliSsa. Hang in there. It will be OK.

Hugs,
Ella & Rusty

Great that T. Is feeling himself again .

Melissa!! You have had so many vet events lately, I am Praying for Charlie's successful surgery tomorrow & a quick Healing time, for Tarragon to heal all up, and for you to finally get a nice quiet period of time with all well furbabies!! Prayers for them all my friend, sometimes it is a hard road, that's why we have friends to hold us up-- Comforting Hugs to you, and Healing green vines to all of you!

I'm so sorry you're having to go through this, Melissa. I'll be sending you lots of positive thoughts and prayers that Charlie gets through his ordeal much quicker than last time and Tarragon continues on the path to health. How completely awesome you got Tarragon to the vet so soon, before it became disastrous!!! Great job!!

Oh no! Poor Charlie! Of course we will keep him in our thoughts!

I am just reading and catching up and want you to know that my thoughts and prayers are going out to you and sending healing vines for Charlie. Any dog who lets a cat clean him is a dog I can adore. Here's hoping all goes well.
