I would take him up to 1.25U from tomorrow. While we suggest a weekly curve for SLGS, spot checks on other days also gives a lot of useful info. So it would be good if you can get mid-cycle tests whenever you can - say a test before bed every night or on in the day on days when you are home etc.

Pookey looks, acts, and is eating normally. But does seem a little more tired and doesn’t hunt me down for high carb treats like he used to.

I have been laser focused on him, so maybe he has always been this tired and I didn’t particularly notice before? And on the treats - maybe since he was so high before it’s like humans and how they get with candy, they just want more and more.

Bandit was very tired and listless in the first few months after diagnosis. She also has neuropathy setting in which limited her movement. She would just lie in bed all day and all night looking sad and unwell. It was quite hard to see. Once we got her numbers under control, the neuropathy resolved and she was zooming around the house and back to her old self. I think newly DXed cats can be slightly dehydrated with all that urination and it doesn't help that they can't process their food and are hungry all the time.


I haven't gone back as far as your first post on Main, so apologies if you have already answered these questions before. Is Pookey a kibble addict? Will he not touch wet food?
And why do you use an AT? The strips are pretty expensive! Most of us use a human meter from our local pharmacy because it's accurate and affordable to use. A popular one in the US is the Relion Premier Classic from WalMart. The meter is only $9 and the strips are $17.88 for 100.

Hi Bhooma! I’m still perfecting my glucose checking skills, but I agree about the mid-cycle tests. I’ll try to get more.

On the food - he’s just always been on dry. I’m researching some wet foods and still thinking about how I’m going to incorporate them, but it’s on my radar. I wanted to see how he’d look on the Dr. Elsey’s too, it’s only really been 1 day on that exclusively.

On the meter - I did just buy the Relion actually! Probably will switch when I run out of AT strips.
