Up bright and early to take care of my boy. I'm glad Marje mentioned that she thinks he's looking better, because I don't like these pinks. Mikey, however, is feeling great. He's playing more, which is making DK very happy. DK needs a playmate, and Mikey has always slept too much for his tastes. I've noticed that Mikey's fur is back to being lush, soft, and generally gorgeous. He's also back to demanding tons of petting and to sitting on my face. Now if I can just teach him to grade writing assignments!

Hi Mary!!

Glad things are going well there. I posted on yesterday's condo that I think we should give Mikey one more cycle at this dose (tonight) and then think about increasing to 0.1u. I know tomorrow and maybe Tues are big days for you at school? When would you feel comfortable increasing after tonight if he doesn't come down?

Hi Mary,

DH and I are both retired teachers. He was an English teacher for 30+ years, and I taught economics and accounting before I started a small business. A wonderful (and so important) profession but we're NOT missing grading the papers! :lol:

Part of me wants to get out of teaching, because of the adults! I love my second graders, but it's a lot of work.

Marje, definitely not tomorrow morning, as no one will be her from about 6:45 until 5 or 5:30. Don will be shooting tomorrow night, since I have conferences until about 7:30 pm. No one will be able to be up with him after +3 that night, and that's pretty firm, because I have conferences until about 4:30 the next day. No one will be here the other week days until 3:30 or 4. This is just a really bad week for Mikey to do this.

Dear Mikey,
Mommy has a stressful and crazy week at school this week. It would be very helpful if you would come down to low blue numbers by tonight. 105 would be just perfect. Please comply.

I cannot stop laughing. Marje has been giving me strategies for catching urine for ketone testing. Mikey is usually a very private pee-er, and I'd not yet been able to test him. Tonight I decided that this was ridiculous. I carried him up to the litterbox, and told him that he had to pee on a strip. He started peeing with me in the room, so I lifted up his tail and stuck the strip in the urine stream. The little stink'ear didn't even bat an eye. He just kept on peeing. All that fuss and drama for nothing. The good news is that he's ketone negative. How often should I test him?

That's the same thing I did with JuJu! Just lifted his tail and got some pee on a stick :lol:

You should test once per day for Ketones.

Thanks, Matt. Mikey usually gives me "the look" if I dare to set foot in the bathroom while he's going, so it was pretty funny. I'm glad JuJu is doing so well.

hehe nice technique! i never tried that, but i can't imagine punkin would've stood for it.

you could even test twice a day for ketones while he's high. If you can, it would be a good idea. just high blood sugar alone doesn't cause it, but one of the trifecta is "not enough insulin" so high blood sugar is often (not always) present with ketones.

Not enough insulin+infection+the third thing I can't remember off the top of my head :(

I think the third thing is not enough food/water :-) The vet told me if Donut was dehydrated that would increase the ketones.

I sure wish I could stay up and follow him tonight. At least I know he's safe and ketone free. yay Mikey!

If I go near Max when he is in his box he runs out. And they say they can't stop mid stream. Hmm.

I'm a retired teacher as well. Taught K-6 mostly 3-5 and was out of the classroom for several years as a coordinator. I miss the kids but not the parents or the crazy principal that really led me to call it a day a little earlier than intended.
