Yesterday's thread

We have a vet visit this morning. I'm not sure how much gabapentin actually stayed in her mouth, since she immediately starts spitting it up and drooling. I only put 1 ml in the syringe, and I can give up to 1.5, so I may try to give another 0.5 in a bit, since I know for sure she got maybe half based on the amount that I rinsed off my hand (gross, kitten, gross). On the plus side, while she's mad to get the med, she doesn't hide and still loves on me.

Good luck with the vet visit.
It makes me nervous every time when I have to get one in the carrier and drive. Those yowling and screaming!
When I actually had go to the vet, she inevitably pooed and peed in the carrier, regardless of how short the journey. Home vet visit today, thank goodness.
Hope Kit cat cooperates and don't gross you out too much (momma, my spit is love juice)
So gross :p:joyful::joyful::joyful:

I've also mostly fed 5% this morning. I'm pretty comfortable with shooting greens, but I don't want her dipping too low since me even shooting below 150 or wanting to see regular numbers below 100 freaks out her vet. She just worries a lot because I'm the only person with a diabetic cat who manages it the way I do.

She was definitely not medicated enough. She was very much displeased that a needle was stuck in her leg, and managed to whip her leg away and rip the needle out (she's strong for her age!). We managed to get enough blood from the other leg (I get to play vet assistant, I actually really like being involved!). She was very much mad when we moved on to claw trims (she has super thick claws in her old age), and then her arthritis shot. She snarled a lot, which we usually only get hisses when she has enough gabapentin in her. She wasn't so mad that she didn't make sure to get a drive by sniffy of the vet's box of stuff that she brings with her. I was a little worried that I took the bandage on the first leg off too soon - it had more blood on it then the second leg. Just in case I waited around for an hour after the vet left to make sure the princess was okay, and then came into work. I'm honestly surprised she wasn't higher when I checked an hour after the vet left, but she'll possibly still keep going up through the afternoon. We're going to try switching to pills to see if it's easier to get enough gabapentin into her. I wasn't super successful the last time we tried pills, but maybe this time!

Ohhh, Kit cat showed her mighty prowess to show the vet who sat on the throne :p
Glad it's over and she's doing well!
Does gabapentin come in the transdermal form? That may be a lot easier?

It does, I use that as a twice daily extra oomph for her arthritis pain. I'm not sure it comes strong enough for a calming effect?

And she definitely showed how ferocious she is. I told her she's very adorably ferocious. She didn't seem to appreciate that. :joyful::joyful::joyful: It's gotta be rough to be a mighty tiger stuck in an adorable 11 lb body that is pretty easily picked up and snorgled.

She was displeased when I told her she had to get off the bed to eat dinner. She seemed to think that dinner should be served on her comfy pile of t-shirts since she had such a traumatic day (and honestly, if she weren't so messy of an eater, I'd probably be fine with it. But not when you're so messy ma'am!) :joyful:

Sounds like an experience :blackeye:. Cleo also has to take Gaba prior to a vet visit. The liquid was a mess and she refused to eat her food if I mixed it in her food. I finally had the Vet send a script to Wedgewood Pharmacy and have it compounded as a chicken flavor chewable treat. I still have to wrap it in a pill pocket but she takes it this way.

I use Wedgewood for her transdermal gaba - we tried putting it in her food, and she stopped eating. I tried pilling her, and she refused to come out from under the bed. We tried the chews, and she tried to bury them, even in pill pockets. This was all for her daily meds to help with the arthritis.
I think I can make a pill work for the every other month claw trim and every 4 month blood work. The odd months are just the solensia shot, and I don't have to dose her for that, thankfully.
I keep telling her that the vet is nice and likes her, and if she didn't fight so much, it would all go smoother and be done faster. She reminds me she's a cat and doesn't understand.

Oh , Alicia, your takes definitely are relatable to Ivy and her experiences going to vets. You’re so lucky you have a home visit. I wish I could find that where I am.
It’s such a nightmare to drug them and take them. I also use Wedgewood pharmacy for the compounding, so seems like a bunch of us do.
Glad you both survived the visit, but not without lots of stress. Glad that’s over :bighug::bighug::bighug:
