So I'm pretty sure that tonights super low PMPS was due to a too-small sample. I thought I'd get an error (if my strips don't pull ALL the blood at once, it errors - Tink flinched and I didn't think I got enough... but got a reading of 92). I was super surprised to see it that low at PS, so retested. Second test took up the right amount of blood and I got 193... so I'm assuming THAT is the correct reading - not the 92. Of course I'll be testing at +2 to make sure! I wouldn't put it past this crazy cat to throw me a green preshot just for giggles.

I'm assuming that's normal... the strip not reading if you dont pull all the blood up at once? I waste a lot of strips because of this. I mean, we're talking a nano-second of hesitation and I get "E313" or something on my meter. It has to draw it all up in one smooth slurp. Of course... I also went with the cheapest possible meter... even if I waste a few strips here and there... at $9 for 50, I guess I can't complain. I REALLY want to use a different meter just because I hate shopping at Walmart (his diabetic strips are ALL I buy there) - but I haven't found them even close to that price anywhere else.

Been there, done that. If I'm not sure which one is right, poor Neko gets poked a third time. Too little blood can give a lower reading than expected. One of the reasons I go with the Relion Confirm (but buy the strips for the Glucocard01 on ADW) is that it needs a 0.3 size blood drop instead of 0.5. My backup meter (Bayer) also needs a 0.5 and I hate having to use it. The strips are a little more expensive, though better priced on ADW than Walmart, but I waste less, and don't have to go into Walmart anymore.

Blue start - how about a nice dip in the lagoon tonight Tink?

Pretty sure the higher number was accurate, based on higher numbers the rest of the cycle. I thought about poking a 3rd time, but his ear hasn't been bleeding well so I'd already poked 3 times for 2 tests. I'm going to have to switch to his left ear for awhile I think - which sucks as it's an awkward angle for both of us... but that right ear has seen WAY too many pokes in the last 6mo or so.

I'll look into the other meter & strips. Might I ask how much the strips are? I just go through SOOOOO many strips with as often as we're testing (thanks to him never settling into a reliable routine) that I can't afford double or triple the price - which is all I've been finding.

Does ADW have a strip that can be used with the Relion Prime? I haven't found anything... but not sure what to look for other than "relion prime" which of course doesn't pull up anything.

I use the Relion Micro and ADW Has strips that work with it. Their Arkray is what I use as a back up and most of the time the results are very close with the two. I like that I can use the same test strips. You might be able to get strips for your meter cheaper on eBay.

I don't think ADW has a strip that can be used with the prime. Either the Relion Micro or Confirm can be used with the Glucocard01. Here's the best deal I've found on those strips. That works out to $14 per box of 50.

And here's a quote from Julie on another cost savings tip.
You can register at http://www.mrrebates.com and get rebates on what you buy at ADW, or you can use the "shop" button at the top of this forum to purchase at ADW and this site gets a small commission. When I started they didn't have that relationship, so i went through mrrebates and i have gotten many $30 checks back on what i spent at ADW.

:( See, even $14/box (while cheaper than most other options I've found) is still half again what I'm paying now. I go through about 50 per week... so already spending about $40/mo just on that (plus the insane amount I'm spending on his food and insulin). I can't afford to voluntarily increase how much this disease is costing me. Now that he's not on microdoses anymore, even the insulin is hard to afford. $120/mo for food (just for the cats, not the dogs), $40 for strips, $85 for insulin - every month. OUCH. That's WITHOUT any vet trips. We're gonna need to see him soon to talk about switching to Lev and probably get bloodwork done since it's been awhile. This cat has SO drained my savings account. Even if I COULD leave for vacation (which I can't due to his shots), I couldn't afford to.

I'll definitely look into the rebate thing though. That could help - though all I'm buying from ADW currently is syringes.

i figured out that the last few year or so of punkin's life, just the routine stuff was *gasp* $650 per month. It's like you get started on this and it's bad enough, but the high dose kitties cost more, then punkin had to have fluids, bupe, acupuncture or laser therapy, vit b12 shots, and on and on. i feel for you.

The mrrebates is 4% on ADW, so even that's going to be more than Walmart. I refuse to shop there for anything - well, i did buy the Relion Confirm there - but other than that i've never shopped at a Walmart. But ya gotta do what works for you and Tink!
