Last night, Morris ate 3/4 of his food. Hopefully he will continue to eat more today!

The specialist said that it is very common for the heart to appear enlarged on an xray due to many factors including the way they lay the cat down. In order to confirm HCM, an echo is needed. HCM can be very treatable depending on how far it has progressed.
My vet said basically the same - it is very hard to tell from an xray, especially in cats. Morris has heart problems for at least 2 years now. It was in the early days of his FD diagnosis that a vet noticed an issue with his heart. My vet says that it speaks well for Morris living this long with this issue & no treatment.

But it progresses (or rarely, regresses) at will, and no love, money, or pharmaceuticals will influence this. I've seen cats on the fast track and I have seen cats who mysteriously plateau for years and years. Cats tend to be rule-breakers :) and HCM in cats is a prime example.
With what little we know about Morris' heart problems (drops a beat about once per minute, funky ECG reading), would you recommend any medications for him, or just continue as is until when/if he starts showing other problems? Yes, my Morris is definately a rule breaker! I am pretty darn sure he has used up almost all 9 of his lives already, yet he still carries on! :-D

I think I am going to be very brave & go ahead with the dental as planned this week. It sounds like a 50-50 (or possibly even better odds) chance that he will survive the dental & be a happier, healthier cat because of it. If, however, we don't do the dental - he is going to be a miserable unhappy, unhealthy cat. Some higher power brought Morris to live with us 12 years ago and I believe that same higher power brought him back to our house 2 years ago when he needed us (when he was diagnosed with FD). I just have to believe that this higher power will take care of him on Thursday as well.

Re: 11/15 Morris AMPS 149

It's official! I have called my vet's office & told them we will be going ahead with the dental on Thursday as planned. I will pick up the antibiotics on my way home from work tonight. I requested the liquid variety as my dh is the only person who can get Morris to swallow pills & dh will be away this weekend!

Sending prayers for a good dental, no complications and a healthier, happier Morris.
Thanks Linda!

So far today, he has only eaten 1/4 of his food. I think this not eating business is causing his numbers to be really out of whack these days! Sure hope this dental on Thursday will result in some nicer colors on his spreadsheet!

We'll be thinking of Morris on Thursday. We want his dental to go well so that he will be happier and healthier! Hang in there, Gwen. I'm sure you are making the right decision.

At least he has come down a little bit this evening. I gave him his 1st dose of antibiotics just before his insulin - it went into him better than the bupe usually does! I think aiming for down the throat is easier than into the cheek pocket!

i think those high numbers are bouncing, gwen. just wasn't sure if you realized that. sweet little morris is hitting blues and bouncing up, yesterday and today. so the bounces aren't lasting too long, just a day, is what it looks like.

I will be thinking about Morris and you on Thursday. I think you have made the right choice for Morris to help him have a better quality of life.
All my best for an easy recovery for your sweet boy.

YAY! Back into the red zone! He has already eaten 1/4 of his food - which is good since they recommend I give his antibiotics with food.

Yes, I know. I just hope the bouncing evens itself out once his teeth are fixed!

Thanks for all the well wishes! I know I will be a nervous wreck all day Thursday!
