As I've explained before, I don't feed Junga gravy foods because he has a presumed wheat/corn/? allergy and the 'gravy' is made with grain (hence the high carb level.)

Some of the board experts suggested Wellness Pouches as a suitable grain-free MC food. Well, I got some, and Junga says 'yuck.' Even with parmesan cheese added he won't eat it reliably -- mostly he licks the cheese off.

So I'm back to spiking duck with Karo to make higher-carb food. How long will a dose of Karo (say, 1/4 tsp) last? His nadir looks to be somewhere between +1 and +3, and I need to be able to get sufficient carbs on board before I leave for work.

I have a timed feeder on order; I am hoping that will be helpful.

Have you tried Merrick's Thanksgiving Day Dinner? That's a MC (12%) and it's grain free. I see that he didn't like the Cowboy Cookout, the texture is pretty odd...but TDD is pretty normal texture, and my cats love it...even my picky civie. There's also Grammy's Pot Pie (8%), also a hit with my cats, also grain free....not MC, but higher end of the LC foods.

Karo doesn't last a long time, but it should be a workable solution if fed in installments. If you can slow the drop early then he should be high enough that he has enough room to drop a little after you leave. You are fortunate to have an early nadir cat...it works to your advantage with your schedule. :-D

I'll have him try Thanksgiving Day Dinner and Grammy's Pot Pie; the fancy petfood store has them. It'll be a while before I get them; the store has limited hours and it's not close by.

In the meantime, it's duck (his FAVORITE) spiked with Karo. I am experimenting with the installments.

Well, Junga says 'yuck' to both of those. Picky little butterball.

I'm using a timed feeder now, which is definitely lowering his a.m. pre-shots. We'll see if he'll eat the timed snacks during the day (or snooze through them.)

On the insulin, I think I'm going to (continue to try to) err on the side of safety. I really can't stand the low-blood-sugar-as-I'm-out-the-door show, and it could be very wrong for Junga. We don't need any kitty comas, not when we're so close to normalization/regulation/whatever.
