Here is yesterday:

Eddie has a pretty good appetite (although I gave him some Mirtazapine yesterday) but hasn't done much in the kittybox, at least not his usual output. I've added some extra PEG.

He looks good for a cat with high BG but I notice when I do the test the lancet produces way more blood than when he is better regulated.

Hoping to hear from IM vet and the prescription for Cabergoline.

We go on.

IM vet dropped the ball today. When I didn't hear from him I emailed and he asked me how much Eddie weighs (Eddie was just in the clinic two days ago) and what is the name of the pharmacy (I've told him a number of times and it's the same pharmacy where he sends in all prescriptions).

Meanwhile, Eddie is still hanging out in the red zone.
 
1. Just heard from IM vet:
"Eddie: 11.5 kg, This means we will need 110ug capsules. At 1 capsule every other day."

2. The IM vet from WSU (who has prescribed Cabergoline before but only once) said earlier:
"I would go with 10 ug/kg Q48 hours like they did in the paper"

I think the pharmacy will have to compound to liquid. More to come tomorrow.

What are you nervous about? What are you looking for input on?

Most people here end up on cabergoline every day. But some start out on every other day, to see if it reduces the possible GI side effects. Have you got a good plan to help you get more test data once he starts? Note, the earliest I've seen any cabergoline effects happen is a week after starting, that that was every day. It can take a lot longer.

I've never seen a cat who has had SRT go onto cabergoline, much less one who had surgery, SRT twice, then go on cabergoline. No way I can predict what might happen. All I can say is get lots of test data. The first cat here to go on cabergoline was OTJ 10 days later. It was a pretty wild ride. Most are a lot easier rides.

What am I nervous about? Well, I guess just that it's been such a long, long road. I never expected that would happen to Blue. He seemed the most stable of all, although the acromegaly must surely have affected his heart.

Eddie has been on the same long journey but the ride has been far more off road than with Blue. I'm nervous because the IM vet here has zero experience with Cabergoline, while the WSU IM vet has used it only once. All experiences here are anecdotal and, as has been pointed out many times, ECID.

The more I've read about Cabergoline, the better I feel about it but, always, acromegaly is just off camera, doing whatever it does.

I'm nervous because the unknown. I'm nervous because I love Eddie and want good things for him but I'm afraid, too. What am I looking for? Just support.

I will do my best to monitor Eddie over the next while. I'm moving as many meetings as possible to Zoom and I've declined holiday invitations. I'm here for him.

I can pretty much say that each person here who had tried cabergoline, it was their vet's first time. Some have had to shop vets until they found one willing to take a chance. Neko was her vet's first cat on Lantus, first using TR, first diagnosed acromegaly, first with IAA, first to have SRT, then first on Levemir, then of course first on second SRT - actually Neko was first anywhere on that front. I admire her vet for being willing to try all those things. Like me, you have done your research and I know you are doing your darndest to find something that helps Eddie. :bighug: As does Eddie's IM vet.

As with so many things acromegaly, there are a lot of firsts. It was only 8 years ago!!! that the research was published showing that it was no as rare as previously thought. There wasn't much motivation before then to justify (and get money for) study of it.
