Good morning LL!
How is everyone doing? Clyde has managed to get a 97 for his AMPS so he's cruising right along. I found that Max, the civvie, will eat frozen foodsicles. My teeth hurt at the thought. I need to figure out a way that Clyde can eat later without Max eating all of the food first. I'm not sure an automated feeder will help with Mr. Hoover, aka Max, in the house. Clyde is very content to sleep on my bed and not move from the bed for most of the day.

Re: 11/14 Clyde AMPS 97

Good morning Will. I had the same problem here with the civies eating Twice's food, so I ended up segregating Twice to a comfy bedroom by himself during the day. Turns out he loves that :-D  Not sure if something like that would work for you,?
Have a great day and surf safe Clyde

Re: 11/14 Clyde AMPS 97

Morning Will,

What a great number for Clyde to start his day! Not sure what to say about Max eating all the food. A frozen meatsicle? Really Max :o  I have three kitties, but they tend to eat in different places, but at the same time.

Clyde, surf safely today!

Re: 11/14 Clyde AMPS 97

Good morning :) Nice AMPS to start your day, Clyde.

J.D. loves to lay on my bed, and when I leave to go to work, I put a bowl of food up there on a crate mat. I also put a bowl of food next to the bed where he often sleeps, and another bowl next to the heated bed in the living room, the two main bowls of food where the cats are supposed to eat, and maybe another bowl here and there. That's just what I do. So far my civvie Ginger (who is very active) hasn't gotten too fat on the buffet. I've been doing it for years.

Re: 11/14 Clyde AMPS 97

Clyde is looking good!!

Gabby will lick a frozen catsickle into nothingness. It doesn't matter if the food is warm, cold, or frozen. She's very food motivated.

Re: 11/14 Clyde AMPS 97

Hi guys .. hmm, what a tough situation .. perhaps locking up clyde would be the best thing during the day? I stay at home with the kitties all day, but on days I need to run out and it's feeding time they do get separated and it works the best that way .. have a great day guys!

Re: 11/14 Clyde AMPS 97

go max! i think punkin would've eaten them frozen too.

clyde looks great this morning. he's a very cooperative little guy, responding just as you want to the tiny dose.

Re: 11/14 Clyde AMPS 97 PMPS 110 +4 46 OTJ Trial Tomorrow???

Evening everyone...Clyde's PMPS was 110. Unfortunately I had to leave for a meeting and just got home in time to do a +4. He was at 46 with .1u. Does this mean he should start an OTJ trial tomorrow? I'm giving him some LC food since I think we're close to his nadir.

Re: 11/14 Clyde AMPS 97 PMPS 110 +4 46 +4.5 50 OTJ Trial???

At 4.5 he's up to 50. I'm going to check again in a half hour.

I think I'm going to try a buffet rather then locking him a room. He associated be locked in a room with a trip to a vet. When I brought him home from the shelter, 13 years ago next month, he was an extremely skittish but docile cat and was afraid of the world. Any time he was scheduled to go to a vet I'd have to contain him in a room so I could find him to go to the vet. It's actually only within the last year he's decided to come and trust me.

Re: 11/14 Clyde AMPS 97 PMPS 110 +4 46 +4.5 50 OTJ Trial???

I would say that it's time to start a trial! Congratulations. Here are the instructions:
  • Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).
  • If your cat is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If he is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!
  • After 2 weeks, if everything is looking good, we have a party!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Yeah!! It's been a while since we've had a trial here and now we've got two of them going. It's a good week.

GO Clyde GO!!

Thank you. I told Clyde and he's doing his happy dance. dancing_cat

I think I'm going to try a buffet rather then locking him in a room. He tends to get stressed out and vocal when that happens. I think he associated that with a vet. When I first brought him home from the shelter, 13 years ago next month, he was an extremely skittish but docile cat and would hide from everything. Anytime he would have to go to the vet I'd have to contain him in a room so I could get him in the carrier.

WAHOO!!!! So glad for you! Will, clyde's body is doing it, but you were at the helm. You've done a great job of handling his diabetes - so pat yourself on the back!

not sure that you still have to figure out the food issue, because you won't have to worry about him going low. he just needs small frequent meals so that it's not hard on his pancreas. if you've gotten him this far, you'll do fine figuring out the rest of it!

please post daily so we can celebrate his progress! it's very encouraging to see another OTJ trial.

Don't worry I'll be posting daily. He wouldn't have made it this far without everyone on this board's help.
