Hi all it turns out Tyler didn't have crystals , When I talked to one of the vets at the practice I go to he told me looking at the reports he received from the ER there were no crystals , I asked him then why was he blocked, he told me it was the mucus plug causing him to be blocked , sorry if I'm using the wrong way to explain it. He's doing fine ,still peeing ,grooming, eating good . I guess I'm trying to say the blockage is usually formed by plugs of mucus

My question is do you think I should start giving him D-Mannose and if so which kind do you recommend, does it raise their BG?
Also I have noticed when he gets up from laying down he's starting to get up a little slower, but then walks totally fine. Maybe starting to get a little arthritis? so I wanted to start him on something, not at the point of needing Adequan at all

I'm wondering if I should start glucosamine condroitn and which one would you suggest, does it raise their BG. He's been in remission since 1-24-21 and I would hate to see him fall out of remission. Thank you

Edit been reading about glucosmine condroitin don't think I would want to give that only because I read it could maybe raise BG, and also cosequin.
I found a post where @Wendy&Neko had used Hyaflex , Wendy did it raise Neko's BG
I don't want to try anything that might knock Tyler out of remission

@Diane Tyler's Mom great news!
Great start with lower phos and magnesium food! Cleo has flutd which is stress/anxiety induced and I give her Cosequin. It's a glucosamine chondroitin powder or soft chew I get from Chewy. The soft chews have "starch" but I haven't seen any impact on her BGs . When she has a flare-up I increase the dose of Cosequin (chew and powder) and make her meals and snacks extra soupy. It usually clears up in a couple of days. I also got her a "senior" litter box. It's larger and has a lower entry point. Lastly, I have a feliway plug in near the litterbox.
Also, every couple of days I switch out her toys and once a week I move her scratching/resting posts a foot or two to the left or right so she has a different viewpoint.
She gets to play with all the Chewy delivery boxes in the living room until recycle day. Chewy boxes make excellent living room decor .
Exercise is good too. One day it's the laser pointer the next is tag (FYI she always wins :joyful:) then DH plays "I got your tooshie".
I know you have A LOT going on. Just 10-15 mins of playtime every day seems to help her be more relaxed.
My vet did tell me to start with the Cosequin but if the flare-ups became frequent, he mentioned that he would give a different supplement for urinary tract support.
Here is the link my Vet sent me to a 2011 study for using a supplement containing N-acetyl-d-glucosamine.

I haven't tried it yet. Just an FYI.

This sounds like very good news (no crystals). Yay, Tyler! :bighug::cat: :bighug:

I also love the description of Cleo’s House of Fun. Never a dull moment over there! @Angela & Cleo It sounds like we have very similar Chewy-inspired home decor, though my boxes are also accented by large swaths of crinkly brown paper on the floor. Better than a throw rug!
Lol do you mean like this

I know Jack isn’t regulated yet, but I can weigh in on the brand name Cosequin… nothing in the ingredients suggests carbs or starch. No rice or flax. So I think that one is good.

As for the paper and cardboard decor… sounds familiar. Can’t share a pic right now though; recycling went out Friday. Heh. Also, we have a small enough house that typically we can only let the kitties have one big box or a couple small ones at a time, otherwise we can’t walk around so well.

had used Hyaflex , Wendy did it raise Neko's BG
No. It is not the only brand of hyaluronic acid, just one brand my vet recommenced for it's quality. We've had several people give glucosamine chondriotin for their cats, Cosequin being one example, that does not raise the BG. Neko got a different brand for a while - I was using it for her arthritis, but it wasn't strong enough. Hyaflex wasn't enough for her arthritis either, but the civvie with idiopathic cystitis got it. He also got Cartrophen, our equivalent to Adequan.

Wendy this is all new to me when it comes to giving something to Tyler.
About the hyaluronic acid , what do I do just Google different brands , can I get it at a pet store? What Cosequin Brand would you recommend or do I just Google that also
I'm sorry but I really don't know anything about supplements

I was doing a search and found this posted ,that's why I am hesitant using Cosequin

FWIW, Cosequin doesn't seem to be a problem for most cats, but it did increase Alex's BG numbers. To minimize the impact I gave half the daily dose twice a day.

I guess each cat is different right , because I did find other members say it didn't raise their cats BG

Sorry to tag you again

I’m interested in this question too. Chispa has been limping on one leg for a while, and though it’s gotten much better, she is still “off” for a few steps when she gets up after a nap. At 16, she may well have some arthritis, so I’d like to find something to help her.

When it comes to stuff like this ,it's like speaking a foreign language to me :banghead:
