Good morning guys! Ovie's AMPS is 210. He seems happy this morning, exploring the house, and bird watching. I did notice he seems constipated though. What do you use for kitty constipation?
Is constipation common in sugar kitties?We use 1" hairball laxative (Laxatone but any other brand should work) - daily - it doesn't fix the hard stool but makes it easier for Toro to pass it out.Good morning guys! It sure seems like everyone here has an issue with it. Pumpkin is a great place to start. I used to freeze it in ice cube trays, and just thaw a cube when needed. Hope you see those blues... I bet you will!Is constipation common in sugar kitties?
Great idea about the freezing the pumpkin. I will do that.It sure seems like everyone here has an issue with it. Pumpkin is a great place to start. I used to freeze it in ice cube trays, and just thaw a cube when needed. Hope you see those blues... I bet you will!![]()
It really has very little smell or taste. Mix it in with his food and he probably won't even know.I will try the pumpkin first and go from there. Ovie is kind of a food snob so I have a feeling he will turn his nose up to it. Lol.

I put some water in his evening meal. He wasn't as enthusiastic about it lol. But he ate some.There does seem to be a significant number of FD kitties with constipation issues.
Cats have a poor thirst reflex and with excessive urinating most kitties with FD experience this can lead to chronic dehydration, which in turn may lead to constipation. (at least that's how I reason it)
I never had a problem with George, I took some precautions;
I add a little extra water to all his meals/snacks, George is the opposite of a food snob, I make most of his meals quite soupy to make sure he gets a lot of water, this is also helpful for his kidneys (he has early/stage 2 CKD), he also has a water fountain and he loves that and has always used it (he doesn't like a drinking bowl as much).
A couple of the low carb foods I feed have some added pumpkin, so he gets that too, I've not needed to supplement with extra pumpkin.
With Mav, usually I can get away with one or two tablespoons of water, more than that, it's a bit chancyI put some water in his evening meal. He wasn't as enthusiastic about it lol. But he ate some.
Good tipsthank you
