Good morning LL ~O) ~O)
Michael is in the lagoon with his green suit which matches his pretty green eyes ;-)
How much food should he eat before I give him a shot :?:
It seems that with better numbers he doesn't want to each as much as when his #'s where in the pinks & yellows. He's back to grazing, and because of this I'm not sure he is eating enough food before I give him a shot. I top the food with freeze-dried treats and he eats more. He eats all the juice from his food and then a little bit of food. He acts like he doesn't like his food, but then I try other flavors and he does the same thing. Grazes.

Re: 11/13 Michael amps 97 Question

Hi Paula,
Rusty is a grazer, free-feeder too, and I just try to make sure that he eats what I put out over the course of the day/evening. I put out fresh food at breakfast (AMPS), at lunch time (in an auto feeder if I won't be home), freshen his lunch at about +9 if he hasn't finished it yet, dinner time (PMPS), and bedtime. He normally eats most of breakfast close to lunch! He normally finishes dinner (while watching TV) close to bedtime. And he normally eats most of his bedtime food just before AMPS.
It is my experience that it doesn't much matter with a grazer that he eats a lot before giving the shot. It will take a while for the insulin to onset, and during that time he will eat some more of his food. Because of Rusty's eating habits I don't pay too much attention to his numbers at AMPS or PMPS, because they almost always reflect food. In other words, it is most important that he eats!

I hope you will find a modus operandi that will work for Michael. I know that what works for some might not work for others. The above is just to illustrate what works for Rusty and me. Keep in mind that Rusty is a long-term diabetic (dx 2008) and that his eating habits have undoubtedly changed over the years. He has been with us since Nov. 2010 and used to eat on a more regular schedule. He is evolving!

Have a good day,

Ella & Rusty

Darin,
Thanks for the call. It was very much appreciated.
I tested @ 6.5 (12pm) 69.
I will test again @ 1pm. Since he is above 50 I won't feed him.

Congrats on the reduction Paula. Looks like Michael wants to go down to 1U. Any number in the 30's is an automatic reduction. Great cycle for Michael today.

Re: 11/13 Michael pmps 84

Thanks Wendy. This is a first, where he has stayed in the lagoon for a full cycle. I must say it is a little nerve racking, because there is a chance he could go too low. On the other hand it's nice to see healthy #'s :!:

Darin,
I won't be surprised if a bounce occurs, but I hope not. I hope M is stablizing. (pmps 84)

Re: 11/13 Michael pmps 84

Way to go Michael!!!!!!

Now don't go worrying mommabean by going TOO low....this is a lovely number to surf at....for several hours if not your entire cycle buddy :)

Re: 11/13 Michael pmps 84

Thanks Molly.
I'm going to try to surf smoothly. (I Hope)

I Tested @ +1 108 Maybe this is the beginning of the bounce. I have to go out tonight and won't be back until +5 (around 10pm) ( will test then. I will leave food for Michael.
