Veterans' Day was Acromegaly Day for Sooty

Today: AMPS 286 +3 243 +10 275 PMPS 282

All good today - Sooty is pretending that he doesn't know he is an Acrocat! What a trooper!

He's getting his first "Acro-style" dosecrease this morning - up by 0.5u this time, from 5.5u to 6.0u.
Purring like anything for his punctures this morning, and still VERY hungry.

Ketone test late last night was Negative.

Will try and get an appt. with our Vet this weekend sometime and we will also give some serious thought to the possibility of switching over from Lantus to Levemir (mainly because its pH is neutral, which is kinder to hi-dose kitties..)

ETA: have an appt for 9AM Saturday morning...

Thank you everyone, for your support yesterday (well, not just yesterday, all the time, but you know what I mean!) - what a day, yesterday was.
Now it's back to "business as usual", Insulin vs. BGs !! In the Red corner, BGs. In the Green corner, Insulin!! ding ding, seconds out...!!!

When you go to the vet about the insulin, take a printout of the info I linked in your other posting. Point out to your vet about the stinging because you don't want to be worrying about the insulin hurting or you may find Sooty hiding at shot times.

Right now, his dose is not all that high, for an acro, but it may get much higher later on, so it's best to be prepared. While my Shadoe has never been over 14uBID and sticks around 7-8u mostly, Oliver has been up to 26u, then down to 13u, and now at 18u. I did not want to worry about any stinging so I have both of them on Lev.

Being in Canada, I just go to the pharmacy and say I want this insulin or that, but you need to have that rx, so it's best to discuss it with your vet while you are still around that 6u dose.

About the hunger, I forget what you have said about feeding, but you could try a feeder so the food can be spread out evenly and maybe it will cut down on his hunger. Here's the one I and many others use:
Petsafe 5-meal Auto Feeder

How much are you feeding now and how much did he used to eat? It could be that he'll be a bit more hungry and need more food till he gets regulated and at his good dose.

Very helpful, thanks Gayle, as ever!

I agree about switching to Levemir. I doubt the Vet will have any problem with that.

On the feeding, pre Dx he used to free-feed from one of those dry food dispensers. SInce Dx, though, he's been on 100% canned - all LC, mostly FF with the odd can of Tuna. He was averaging maybe 15oz/day until lately, now it seems that as his dose has been getting higher, he seems to become hungrier. He's doing 21 or 24 oz/day the last couple of days. We're trying to keep him down to one 3oz can every two hours or so, through the day. He is fine overnight though - often, we'll find food still there in his dish in the morning...
