For today I proudly offerTriple shot espressos, with beans from deep within the interior of Panama: Panama Paso Ancho, AND.... for all my Mocha fans: a Venti quad blackberry infused white mocha, with apple cimmamum whip, garnished with caramelized apple clusters, white chocolate shavings, a dusting of cimmamum and blackberry drizzle. OOOOOOOOOOO! Excellent, I SWEAR!

Yesterday was ....... RAINBOW KITTY day in MannieLand. I SWEAR that dosecrease threats work! or... another testimonial for patience does work. It was a nice day for him, a bit extreme in that we hit all colors except for that really nasty color that shall not be named. He did find the greens, for a short while, and seemed satisfied with a blue surf after that. Rumor has it that the Blue Mannie Group was found jammin' live on a ski slope near you... Well done Mannie!!! I sure like those blues and greens. Maybe we can try for that again today... AFTER your vetty appt. Lubs ya big guy! cat_pet_icon

Today is Mannie's appt with a veterinary cardiologist. I finally made the appt: he will go to the specialty center here for a full cardio workup, echo, all the fun stuff. When we were dealing with his UTI and dental and no appy and giardia and U/S back in july/august, the vet felt that his heart rate was little fast, that he could well have an Arrhythmia. We never scheduled it, the cardio workup, then as we all felt we needed to get him through all the other stuff, then the heart issue, if there even is one. I've been semi-bad and have not scheduled it. so.... we will get this taken care of today. Paws crossed that we will not find any major issues.... Lucky Mannie!! A vetty trip! All is well in MannieLand. :-D :-D We are aback to the dreary dismal gray wet ad rainy weather...after a nice break on Saturday, the wet is back. :roll: Mannie spent most of the day curled in his bed - smart boy. Later in the morning I found him meowing in the kitchen... prancing and doing his fuds dance... seems he wanted to be tested. It was that test that gave me the 83. Smart kitty! He got his fav fuds, and then went back to bed. Drama was over in his book... :lol: :lol: :lol: I had spent some time cleaning up in the living room while he was asleep in his bed. I picked up his brush and comb, which made a sort of clattering sound. :shock: :shock: :shock: Those ears hot up, the eyes got very big, and he was on all fours within seconds. It was then that he ran from the room, headed down to the basement. So there I stood at the top of the stairs telling him as he made this mad dash around the corner: "Mannie... I was just moving them.. We are not having a demat session today..." He was not convinced. :lol: :lol: :lol: This morning we had a great test, feed and shoot and clean plate club , purrs and a lots of cuddles. Apparently yesterdays combing session has been forgotten. :cool: Normalcy in MannieLand. :-D

Hi Michelle. Good luck with the vetty visit Mannie! I hope everything comes back good. Both Shnookie and Rumpy (drooler) have been to the cardiologist, and Kibby may need to go too. Shnookie had an echo done, he's asymptomatic, too, and so far, no treatment required, but needs to be seen annually. Rumpy just had a chest xray, they didn't feel an echo was warranted at this point, and again, no treatment, just yearly monitoring. Kibby had a chest xray at the regular vet last week, which is being reviewed and I haven't heard results on that yet. It's great to have a baseline, so I hope that's all this turns out to be for Mannie.

Morning Michelle and Mannie, sending lots of good vetty vines from CA! I laughed when I saw your post "cardio day" I thought you were puttin Mannie on a treadmill hahahaha! I hope all goes well, will be loking forward to hearing how it goes!
BTW I have shot Scrabble in the chest (area behind front leg before ribs) and there is fleshy skin there so not so bad to shoot with long hair. Just thought I would share if you want to experiment, obviously for Scrabble it has not made a difference yet as Mr P is not listening!

You are probably stuffing Mannie into a box as I type, but I'll pile on some more good vetty vines for Mannie. I hope he doesn't need to get shaved again. It's cold enough outside without a shaved tumtum. (although it does get rid of some of those mats).

Mannie, I'm heading out to the solarium to harvest some of that rosemary they grow there. Let me know as soon as you're back and I'll hit the #5 highway. I think there might be some lavender on the deck if you'd like that too.

Oh what fun this is... we are at the cardio vetty. Mannie is such a good boy. He let Dr. Moran do the initial physical exam with no fuss. Prelim exam inidicated a normal heart rate for a cat at the vet. He did detect an abnormal rhythm. Instead of lub-dub Mannie is doing a lub-dub-dub. All else seemed fine. So.... now we wait on the echo, BP reading, and the ECG.

we are back... and no worse for wear. Mannie was a model patient. what good kitty! Cardio dude said he wished all his patients were as good as Mannie. :lol: :lol: :cool: so..... for the results. let's hope I can interpret all this correctly.... :roll: :roll: :roll: :roll:
Cardio Results:
Physical exam: normal. Noted: S4 gallop rhythm. not audible murmur found
BP: 210, 100-160 considered normal. so Mannie was "up there". hpyer tension cannot be ruled out, but all other associated with this are normal: eyes,etc. Cardio man suspects tat this was related to the visit there. We will recheck in 2 weeks
ECG: Heart Rate 120, sinus tachycardia diagnosed. fast heart rate I think.... ??
ECHO: there are some changes in Mannie echo from 4 years ago, progression appears to be slow. valves function normally. Blood flow is normal. Contractions are normal. There is one area that indicates possible HCM, but case is extremely mild and will be reevaluate in 6 months. One atrium wall is thick - this is the area of concern.
Diagnosis: Asymmetric Basilar Septal Hypertrophy: MILD, POSSIBLY due to HCM. There is a thickening of the atrium ( I think that was the part) ) that will require medication to prevent the formation of clots, which cats I guess are prone to. He will be placed on Plavix to deal with this. The possible Hypertension will be reevaluated in two weeks.
so... that is it in a nutshell. I hope I interpreted it all correctly. He has a few issues with wall thickening but not considered at this time as a for sure HCM patient. So re-eval in 6 months.

Thanks Ann- me too. I read the print out that they gave me and OMG - alot of medial stuff that is beyond interpretation. AIyye!! The main concern is the potential for blood clots. so we need to address that now. all the rest is on re-eval status. Good, I think....

LOL: Mannie has not stopped bathing since he got home.He really does stink... poor guy! Tell the kitters he so needs his friends. :-D

Michelle, I don't quite understand all the medical terminology, but sounds like it is manageable with meds and b/p will be monitored. Maggie has her b/p monitored, too. You ust be relieved, too, that it's all over. :-D

HI Ann - oh I know! I read this printout and think omg... where is the dictionary. I wrote from what I remember him telling me. But yes: manageable with meds. Their concern is the thickening of the one chamber that can cause a clot release event - bad news if that should happen - therefore the meds. and oh yes - a huge relief that it is over. Even though he did not get a clean bill of health it isn't all that bad... we recheck periodically to make sure all is the same.

Usually, when there is a danger of clots the concern is that something is disrupting the flow of flood. This could be a valve that's not functioning properly or because of wall thickening, there are "rough" spots that disrupt the smooth flow of blood and increase the risk for clots. It's pretty much the same in humans. Plavix is an anticoagulant and prevents clots from forming.

Thanks Sienne. This is what I was told, but you explained it much better - THANK YOU! In Mannie's case it is a wall thickening, and the valves are functioning normally. I have filled the Plavix script, but will wait until FR to start meds, so I can watch for the side effects, none of which are particularly pleasant. Just can't do that effectively when DGS is here....

497 @ pmps. ARRGGHHH!!!!!!! Come on down Mannie - the vetty trip is over.... WOW: almost a perfect storm: headed up after a dip into the greens yesterday, and then a stressful vetty trip and BAM with the BG's. I sure hope he is down some at +2. :-D

Hi Barb - I to LOVE oliver's invitation! :lol: :lol: The general opinion is that Mannie's elevated BP was vet trip related. There re other areas they look at to help with BP Dx - one of them the eyes, and his are normal. Other areas are normal too. So.... I will take him in in a couple of weeks and have his BP tested again. The other issues will be treated with Plavix, or baby asprin - I need to decide which would be the best approach for him. But ll in all, not too bad.

good news that the heart checkup was relatively good!

My Sammy told me to tell you to get these for the Plavix: http://www.capsuline.com/cat_chicken_flavored_caps/catcaps™-chicken-flavored-size-3---119.html

or see if your vet can give you some empty capsules. Plavix is BITTER and when I tried to hide it in soft treats it turned Sammy off of the treats. Some people are able to get their cats to take it in pill pockets, but I haven't been that lucky.

Be sure you get the generic Plavix, it's way, way cheaper. Sammy hasn't had any side effects from his Plavix. I think it is generally well tolerated. I have a friend whose cat has been on it for 5 years.

Michelle - so good to hear that Mannie has no serious issues right now and that meds will work - hopefully he'll be good about taking them.

I'm glad the vetty report wasn't too bad. At least the one thing is treatable. I hope Mannie comes back down for you now that he's home.

Hi Michelle, Glad to hear Mannie got a good heart report and his condition can be treated with meds. cat_pet_icon Hope he comes down to lower numbers soon and does not experience side effects from Plavix.

Hi Libby - thank you for the visit, and the info. Yes, THe checkup was more or less good, with a few concerns. It is good to know that Plavix does have a taste, and not a nice one. Mannie loves the pill pockets, so might try those. I like the capsule idea though too. That would be helpful. And yes on the generic Plavis -that is what I got. The cardio man wrote the script for Plavix only, but the pharmacy called and got that changed. so we have the generic. huge $$ savings. It is SO NICE to know that there weren't nay side effects for Sammy. That had me a bit worried... so thanks!

Hi Ella - I think it will be. But we do need to do the meds - to prevent the clot formation. and yes - Plavix is a blood thinner. I hope it will help him too. And yes - so I told him: COME DOWN! - he almost has a perfect storm brewing: dive to greens yesterday, extra fuds, vetty visit and now I just remembered: NEW MOON!

Come on down Mannie! The vetty excitement is over. Great to hear it went well and you have the results already. I never knew they give Plavix to cats but am not surprised. I'm glad to hear that the results are just mild and nothing serious. With meds and being a good boy taking them, Mannie will have years!! It's good to recheck that BP in a couple weeks. I know you are glad to get this behind you and know what you are and are not dealing with. Can we all say how much we dread vetty stress on the BG? I hope it wears off very soon!!
