Hello---

This week has been dreadful. I have had to go into work every day this week versus working from home and then working more at night so I have not been able to stop by as I had desired.

First things first-- DoDo is going to the vet in the next few minutes. His feeding tube site is looking a little too red and I detect a slight odor today. Unfortunately, I have to travel next week (I am having a little bit of a heart attack about that) from Tuesday morning to Friday afternoon. So that leaves him in my mom's care for Tuesday AM and PM shots, Wednesday AM and PM shot, Thursday AM and PM shot and Friday AM shot. I wouldn't ordinarily have an issue with this but the timing of when he had his DKA episode I was away and well it just makes me overly nervous. So with that said, I don't want the feeding tube to be getting an infection at the site while I am out of town.

Other than that, we have bounced around a little more than I have liked. But it seems like that is par for the course.

I think he may have gotten too low last night (I just couldn't wake up to do a middle of the night check) because he is feeling slightly punky today. But this could have been I gave him crumbs from his freeze dried chicken treats this morning and I think he puked them up. In hindsight that didn't make sense to do since I am sure it was super dry and just not a good measure of how much I was giving him.

He did eat his breakfast (yay) but I did notice that all of the non-gorging kitties didn't seem to have much of an appetite so I dont think I should be overly concerned he didn't dive right in-- neither did his buddy Krycek. He is pretty much sacked out on the bed right now napping-- I feel a little bit guilty about waking him up to cart him off to the vet.

I am aiming these days for the 90s... I would like for him to be around 90 at this nadir since he can go so low so quick with little to no warning I think with his sputtering Pancreas.

Anyhoo.. I hope everyone is doing well.

Christina and DoDo

Well so DoDo does have a fever of 104.

They are taking a culture of his e-tube site and sending him home with some antibiotics. Since my normal vet is on vacation they do not advocate taking out the tube especially with him feeling so punky and since I'm traveling next week.

Ugh makes me feel so stressed traveling now.

well the fever likely has a role in the number anywayl.
get well dodo, (((((dodo)))) ((((christina))))

Yeah-- so he is now back on some antibiotics.

I will be taking him back on Monday before I leave for Boston to see if the tube needs to come out. We are giving it a go first with just the antibiotics so it is here in case DoDo needs help while I am away.

Other than that-- he is back home, but decided to hide under the bed.. He is a little offended with having gone to the vet.

Whew-- the culture of the infection and site was expensive! $175.00

Other than that.. hopefully we can get back on track before Tuesday morning.

Wow..

My total bill today was 455.45.

But, I had to get extra syringes (and that was way more expensive than old vet so I know what to do now), I got a different wound care kit for his infection that was $36.00, $65.00 for a check up, the 175.00 for the wound culture, 46.00 for the clavamox drops, it was 36.00 for the syringes and then they did some blood work for ketones, glucose, and other stuff.

I knew it was going to be at least 300.00 but admittedly i had no clue over the cost of the culture.

Oh well.. it is what it is.

Depending on where you live, you should be able to buy syringes at Walmart for about $13.00 for a box of 100. They are behind the pharmacy counter and you have to ask for them.

Yikes on that vet bill.

Or you can order syringes from Hocks - link is in the PZI Sticky. I use u100 insulin syringes to shoot other meds too. I've even been using them for IM injections... If you do order from Hocks click the yellow Hocks banner at the top of the forum before each order as the board will get a commission - funds here are very much needed from what I've read.

Wow, that is great that you caught the problem, great job!!! Hopefully that will keep everything under control while you are gone. I'm sure it is scary, but hopefully you have someone you trust who will be keeping an eye on him. And with the antibiotics, at least you won't have to worry about him getting any infection while you are gone!!!

Hope he is feeling good and healing up soon. Those vet bills are just crazy. I'm waiting for the day when you can count the furries as dependents for tax purposes. I mean, really, it's what they are!!!

Re: DoDo is not overwhelmingly happy this evening

Well....

*lol*

So... DoDo because he feels a little bad still decided he will hide underneath the bed. He wouldn't come out for his treat and I had to give the antibiotic. So like I told my mom, this was a NO GO.

So... I had to remove the slats from her bed frame so he will not be able to crawl under the bed. Now her box spring is on the floor (not such a huge deal since we will be getting her floors done soon) and DoDo was rather pissy about not being able to hide. He was swishing his tail all around although he was a sweet heart with his antibiotic (in the tube) and he ate his treat.

I think we will be leaving the slats off for awhile especially while I am gone-- then he is not able to hide underneath the bed at all.
