Good morning!
AMPS 142 shooting 2.25u

Boomer was extremely needy last night. He refused to eat his +3 so I scooped it out onto a plate and he was eating so I went to bed. Five minutes later he's at the door crying and he kept it up for about 10 minutes then came to bed. He woke me at 2:00 to stir his food. I woke again when I felt DH get into bed and I asked what time it was (assuming he had got up to start coffee). He said 5:00. I went back to sleep but found out later that Boomer had been crying again and DH had got up to stir the food (which almost never happens). I really need to break Boomer of this habit. I'm considering just leaving plates of food out for him so he can graze on whatever he wants but I feel he may still wake us up.

Allen isn't eating enough. Even though the other night he actually asked for food an hour before normal bedtime feeding time, he's far from being CPC like he was. He's very weak, his hind legs aren't functioning well at all. He has jumped up on DH's lap a few times in the last 2 or 3 days so that's a good sign. We give a dose of pred tonight and another on Tuesday and then he will be done and hopefully the weakness goes away. And the new med, diazoxide, is in liquid form and .5ml twice daily. Last night it made him drool.

The baby session yesterday was a success! It got off to a rocky start when they were 45 minutes late (she had sent me a message that they were going to be late, were very sorry, and understood it might decrease their session time). I even managed a shot that I've been wanting to try.....baby laying in the arms of a big teddy bear! Baby was a big boy.....over 10 lbs at birth!

Nothing much on the agenda today. I am tired and I have a busy week ahead of me so I'm going to take it easy today hopefully and just sit and do some editing.

It seems a lot of people are using auto feeders, is that an option for you in the night maybe? I guess you'd have to find one with an auto stir option too! :p

I hope the drug change sorts Allen out, poor boy. Asia is a drool monster when I've tried to give her liquids, dramatic heavy drooling and foaming all over the house...it makes me wonder if any of the meds actually get in at all.

Glad your session went well, that is a big baby!

is that an option for you in the night maybe?
Yes we use one.
He does try to pull the same stuff during the day and sometimes he'll sit there and look at us and wait for us to stir his food. But he doesn't cry. So it's easier to wait it out and usually he gives in and eats.

Poor Allen; give him a :bighug: from me. I must see the teddy bear holding a baby!
You could have one of those life-sized cardboard cutouts made of yourself and put it by the auto feeder! :joyful: Of course you still need an auto stirrer at that point. To tell the truth, I have the same issue during the day. I must sit next to Maggie while she eats or she'll just eat a bit and leave. Don't have the problem at night because we confine her to the laundry room overnight because she sometimes has trouble finding the litter box at night. They have us well trained...

I hope you can break Boomer of the habit of waking you up. I think he just wants the attention. Poor Allen. I hope the new med helps. Sending prayers.

I'm glad the session went well. I'd like to see the baby in the arms of the teddy bear too.

Hope Allen starts feeling better, poor little guy:bighug:

As far as Boomer and the overnight stirring I feel your only option is to completely ignore him when he cries and wakes you to stir his food. Its a habit and routine for him and he just wants you up. I had worked with a cat behaviorist and had a similar issue with my civvie Ming waking me up at night to eat. It was actually resolved by adding the auto feeder so he associates food with the machine and not me. Plus spacing out the food into smaller meals was key.
She had said if we first didn't satisfy he needs (hunger) than the next step was to "play dead". Not move and not give into his demands of me getting up in the middle of the night. She equated it to the same thing you have to do to a crying infant. Let them cry it out, it will get worse before it gets better but in a few weeks it should resolve the issue. I know easier said than done but you need to get your sleep so its worth thinking about;)

There are times we do that and it works. Sometimes he wakes us maybe 15 or 20 minutes before his auto feeder is set to turn. So I don't get up and sometimes I'll call him and can persuade him to come to bed. Or sometimes I do ignore him (obviously can't do that if his numbers were lower at bedtime) and he eventually gives up just like he does during the day. If he were not on insulin I would totally do this....ignore him. sigh.

I feel your pain. I shoot early enough that the +4.5 snack is the only evening snack I have to worry about. Gizmo pulls the same thing some of the time - he wants his toppers added. :banghead: AND I can't go to bed until he has eaten that snack or he will follow me to bed and just not eat it or will eat it late and then not eat his +7.5 and have stomach acid in the AM :banghead:. If I go to bed early then hubby has to come get him from the bedroom and put him in front of the feeder - then he will eat with (usually) no issues. During the day, when I am at work - there are no issues at all unless we are dealing with nausea or pancreatitis.

Cats! :cat::banghead:

I'm glad to hear Allen wanted some lap time with DH recently. Sending mega vines and prayers his legs get better and the new meds help. Looks like Boomer is thinking lagoon time today!

+6 85
At +3 he obviously wanted us to stir his food. I ignored him, DH started to go over to the dish and I suggested that he ignore Boomer. And Boomer gave in after a few minutes and ate about half of it. So when +6 came around he was quite hungry and ate all by himself.

Allen isn't eating much at all. I will talk to Dr Larry tomorrow about an appetite stimulant.

Allen ate reasonably well tonight and actually came out to the kitchen without having to be carried. He ate some of his chicken pate, his wee piece of chicken, and then he headed over to Boomer's dish which was clean so I scooped out some fowl ball onto a plate and he ate quite a bit of it.
He got his second to last pred tonight.

We just put out the nighttime food in bowls and if Rusty eats it--or some of it--, good, and it doesn't really matter what time he eats it. The auto feeder never worked well for Rusty at night (or for Stu, either). Both cats slept with us and got up so silently at night that we never knew if or when they got up, or how many times. I hope you and Boomer can come to terms!
Vines for Allen's legs and hopefully the new med will help, now that the old is almost out of his system.

I suspect that Boomer just wants our company at night and is using the food as an excuse.
Tonight I tried some small pieces of his treats mixed in with the +6. This Bean needs sleep!
