Can we invite any and all interested to a brainstorming session? Here's the situation:
We left town on 11/7. In our absence, in charge were Jenna, a parasitology grad student who hadn't cared for cats before, but was interested to learn to give Clare's shots and offered to stay at the house and generally look after the two cats; and Holly, a Vet Tech at our veterinarian's office who came to our house once a day to check Clare's BG at around her lunchtime and Clare's nadir time.
We lowered Clare's insulin dose from 0.75 to 0.25, beginning the PM before we left. We instructed Jenna and Holly to keep Clare's favorite LC food options available. We left a pile of food for Coral and a pile for Clare. The only thing they both like is FF salmon; the rest of the food is what they each particularly will eat.
While we were gone, here are the BG readings that Holly got:
11/7 84 [OK, we thought, the depot is still draining]
11/8 262 [OK, we thought, Clare's bouncing - although it's kind of low for her bounces]
11/9 63!!! [What the heck! Holly came back and retested Clare at +8.5: 105. We decided to skip Clare's evening dose.]
11/10 137 [By now, the depot must be adjusted? Why is her nadir still so low? A snowstorm caused our flight home to be cancelled; we were rebooked for early the next morning. We decided to skip the PM dose again.]
11/11 49!!?? See below for ensuing actions. Tested again when we got home at +8.5: 166. Decided to skip tonight's dose.

Clare's surprisingly low number today, the 5th day of a reduced dose:
Just as we touched down at the airport (still 45 minutes away) I turned on my phone and Jenna had just texted that Holly had gotten a 49 and was worried. I called them from the plane as we were taxiing into the gate.
Worried, Holly had rubbed Karo on Clare's gums. She said that Clare was acting fine. So I explained that we've gotten the 49 before and that Holly'd done just the right thing, and that we'd be home soon and Clare would be higher by then. Holly went back to work and Jenna fed Clare some HC which she wasn't interested in. (She never is, so we usually use baked chicken with a few drops of maple syrup.) When we arrived, Jenna was at the house looking after Clare, who was asleep.
Clare seemed a bit slow-moving but after she saw us she perked up. She greeted us, then started sharpening her claws on the nearby cat tree. Then she went to eat some of the other LC food that was out for her. I noticed that Clare's butt was a bit tucked in, but otherwise she seemed pretty normal.
Jenna had a lot of questions for us. Clare had caught a mouse earlier that morning. Jenna had tried to get the mouse away from her (hoping that she might have a parasite-infested specimen for her lab that she teaches at the local campus) but Clare would have none of that, and had eaten the mouse. So far, Clare hadn't eaten too much else until around the time Holly had come. Someone had thrown up overnight. (You can tell, Jenna's a trooper!)
I had questions, too! Since I wanted to rule out what seemed like the most likely scenario, that Clare had been getting more insulin that we'd expected while we were gone, I asked Jenna to show us how she'd been measuring the insulin. She was doing it just right.
So the question: What could be making Clare go so low when we had significantly lowered her insulin dose while we were gone? She's actually had healthier numbers while we were away than with all the diving and bouncing she's done recently.
While we're figuring this out, we decided to just keep with the program she's been on, maybe test a couple of more times today. But actually, that's one of the things I'm wondering: are our frequent tests maybe pushing Clare's BGs artificially into higher numbers?
I haven't a clue. I'm hoping my LL friends will help me figure this out.
