Hi My Friends
Been such a crazy week. i finally got a chance to post. He is just starting to have some lower numbers. I still haven't had time to run
a curve. just been spot checking. Hope you are all ok.

PS - although his behavior has been great and 4 of his p's are great.... his Poop P :) is not so good. We are back to very runny diarrhea again.
I have been giving alot of fortiflora but still nothing. I bought a can of pumpkin as was suggested last time. Does that really work? How much
would you say he should get? Has anyone had a cat with chronic colitis? If yes, how did you treat it? I don't want him on metronitazole all the time.
would much rather have a "natural" cure if there is one. Thanks so much.

I tried the pumpkin a few weeks ago when Maddy was experiencing some constipation. I just mixed about 2 teaspoons in with her evening meal. I didn't really have to do it long term, but people swear by it.

Have you tried to change foods at all? I see Tibbs is on the young again, zero carbs. Is that right? How long has he been on that and how long has he has diarrhoea? Could they be connected.

Remi's poo by and large has improved since changing to a wet food before that he used to be on a hypo allergenic food designed for sensitive tummy's and whilst that didn't help his diabetes at all it did seems to settle his tummy.

Saoirse had diarrhoea a while back but it was pancreas-related. I think the slew of antibiotics and meds here and there after diagnosis may have contributed.

Tried Fortiflora and a little bit of pumpkin, but that didn't help much. It took a lot of effort to find a food that agreed with her (chicken/poultry based). Once I got her on that it cleared up slowly but surely. I think getting the right anti-nausea med helped (ondansetron - she still gets it once every couple of days).

When she was really runny, my vet prescribed Pro-Kolin kaolin paste with probiotics. It helped a little, but the right food/meds seem to have been the solution for my little one.

Does anyone know if slippery elm can help with diarrhoea/colitis?

Some TLC for you both ...

Actually yes I had one little guy that was chronic with the liquid poop he had IBD, although he is no longer with me, here is what solved his.......RAW! Just good old fashioned raw chicken. Now this was long before I found this board or ever knew a cat could be diabetic, so didn't have Dr. Lisa's raw diet to follow and make my cats food myself back then so with Sebastian what I did on the suggestion of a nice woman that bred Rag Dolls (Bastian was a rag doll) was I took Fancy Feast (I think, one of the 95% meat canned foods its been 10 years so memory fails) Chicken canned food and added 20% fresh raw ground chicken meat to it. Now because I'm paranoid when it come to my babies I did buy chicken breasts and then grind them up in a food processor when I did this as I don't generally trust what else they put in the commercial ground meats.

But with Tibbs you might want to look into just buying already mixed up raw food for him. I believe Feline Pride has some fairly reasonable priced raw the they ship frozen in big tubs. that you just thaw out and serve. I know we also had a little girl at the shelter where I volunteer that also had a dog with IBD and I believe they added raw meat or switched her over to a raw meat diet and she also improved drastically.

You might try before buying offering him some bites of raw chicken and see if he'll eat it that way, if he will then move on to giving him about 20% of his food as just plain raw chicken and if that goes well then try switching him over to a completely raw diet, the other plus to feeding a raw diet is that its just about the lowest carb diabetic cat food out there, and as close as we can get them to what they were meant to eat in nature short of going out and catching live mice for them.

thanks everyone. so funny because we have mice in the attic in the winter and every year we trap about 20 mice in hav a hart traps and take them up to the park to release. i should just put Tibbs up there lol. i'm going to try the raw. what about the salmonella thing in raw chicken? are cats effected by that?

That is why I used muscle meat that I ground myself. But usually cats aren't effected by bacteria that would get us sick. They are meant to eat meat and in the wild a lion will return to a kill day after day until it is gone. Cats being obligated carnivores their intestinal track is very straight and smooth as opposed to we humans that have a very twisted and lumpy one, so cats process and eliminate food and waste much quicker than we do, so the meat doesn't have a chance to hang around on the inside. Yeah I know TMI...lol

But just a precaution what I did was drip the chicken breast in a pot of boiling water just to kill off anything on the surface of the meat (that is where the bad stuff is going to be), and then chopped and tossed in the food processor. Pre-grounded you have no idea what was on the surface of the meat used and now that is all mixed up with everything else so no way to zap the surface nasties,. If you notice when we have a meat recall because of something like samonella it is almost never say steak or roasts but hamburger. They just tell you to wash your cutting boards and make sure you cook the outside of the beef. That's because the bacteria isn't IN the meat but ON the meat.

oh i see. thanks Mel. i will def do that dipping thing
thanks. ps. stupid question. what is muscle meat??? (like legs and thighs ???? )

Anything that isn't ground up. Breast, leg, thighs, etc if you are talking poultry...beef or pork would be roasts, tenderloins, chops, fillets etc. You know big chunks of MUSCLE! The stuff that makes you more than a skeleton. If it isn't bone, organs or fluids it's muscle.

Glad to hear that Tibbs is getting some better numbers, Nadine. cat_pet_icon How's his digestive system? And have you managed to get any bit of rest for yourself? :YMHUG:

hi Áine
well....... i'm still exhausted. i sleep but it doesn't seem to help. guess i need a trip to the doc. Tibbs is behaving great...just still has the runny poop. i'm going to try adding in the raw and see if that helps.

Know exactly what you mean about the lack of restorative sleep, Nadine. :YMHUG:

If they're available in your part of the world, a course of Vivioptal mutivitamin and mineral supplement is a great tonic.

Do you like/use essential oils at all, Nadine? If you do, a blend of lavender, frankincense, sandalwood and eucalyptus is good for night-time (assuming that you have a kitty-safe place to put an oil burner). Another thing that might help is a course of Bach Rescue Remedy.
