Slick roads, but snow isn't bad.....yet.

Not looking forward to tonight's commute home....thinking I will stop for some snacks in the vending in case I get stuck for too long....

T/F/S time is about 30 minutes away....

I am getting worried again because for the last few days when Skooter is in his LB he is meowing, not everytime...now they did urine testing the last time this was going on (when his numbers were going high) and found absolutely NOTHING.....

He is acting normal, eating normal and has great numbers.....

I am not sure what to do....I don't want to bring him in and have testing done if he doesn't need it as my pocketbook hasn't quiet recovered from his last stint of bloodwork and urinalysis...

So far, this winter storm is a bit anticlimactic.....we shall see what tonight and tomorrow brings as that is when our winter storm warning ends....

Skooter, what's all the commotion in the LB? Maybe give him a couple more days to gather more info? I don't mind the snow but I don't like slick roads. I'm glad Anne has a Jeep that I can take to school now that she's retired. :lol:

I am not even sure if it is when he is in the LB, I guess I am assuming it is because he is downstairs....he has been meowing more (more like he used to before he got FD) so maybe it is just I am not used to him being vocal again...

He is also meeting me at the door a lot more often and meowing when I am coming in the door, so maybe I am just overreacting....

I am such a worrier when it comes to him :roll:

Thought I would throw this out there and see what other's opinions were....

So lately Skooter has had a habit of dropping fast at night (not sure what he is doing during the day, but since I am limited to when I can come home, maybe I don't want to know)....it makes me wonder since his AMPS has been lower, if he is dropping and then bouncing back up at PMPS.....

I am wondering if I should start giving him MC at +2 in the PM when he takes the dive by half....the problem is, he tends to be a bit carb sensitive and I don't want him to lose momentum and start driving up at +2 or +3.....

Perhaps I could try adding a little MC to his LC food during the day to see if that brings his PMPS numbers down a little bit?

I know I am all over the place, but I just am not sure what to do about his cliff diving....

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

You might try giving him a teaspoon of higher carb food at +2 on the PM cycle when he drops like that..Not a lot higher, just a few points and see what happens

As with everything regarding this silly disease, all you can do is try it and see what happens!

Great job though noticing that he seems to mostly do this quick drops only on the PM cycle..not near as often on the AM (when you go back and look at the AM cycles that you were able to test anyway)

hi molly. i've taught countless members how to use small mini-meals of kitty's regular food (not MC, not HC) to help flatten out a curve. sienne's gabby is one of the queens of early diving. i believe she feeds gabby small meals at ps, +1, +2, and +3. i bet if you shoot her a PM she'll post some ideas.

There is a post here where Jill was helping someone to feed the curve to smooth out the dives, molly. Look for "feeding the curve" and maybe it will be helpful to you.

Jill's right -- Gabby loves those early dives in a far more dramatic way than Scooter! (Tonight is a good example.)

A good deal of using food to manipulate the curve depends on how your cat responds. In other words, what works for Gabby may not be optimal for Scooter especially since Gabby's nadir is at +3 or +4. In addition, sometimes it can take longer than expected to see any changes. That said, I feed Gabby small, frequent meals. I also test early in the cycle. Tests and food are at pre-shot, +1, +2 and +3. Originally, I was feeding at PS, +1, +2, +3, and +4. My new work schedule won't permit the additional test/feed time. Front-loading the cycle with food does seem like it has flattened out Gabby's cycle. (I also have a timed feeder set up but I'm convinced that Gabby sleeps through it and Gizmo eats what's there.)

I've found that by testing at +1 and +2 I am better able to gauge if Gabby is dropping and how fast. This allows me to decide if I want to intervene with HC food.
