I was incredibly sick yesterday! My family was kind enough to feed Morris & give him his insulin, but none of them are willing to test his BG for me :roll:

With his number being so high this morning, I'm hoping it's because he is still bouncing. I will be taking him to the vets this afternoon for his labwork & ECG to be done. I have an exam to write as well this afternoon, so I will drop him off on my way to my test & pick him up when I am done. I'm not sure if we will have ECG results that soon or not....I am really curious to know what that result will be!

Hi guys .. sorry to hear you were so sick yesterday and very sorry to see morris bouncing this high! I hope the vet visit and your finals both go well .. it will be interesting to see the test results ... have a great day!

Red is much better than black! He has already eaten 1/2 of his food for today!

Gwen: hope you are feeling better today.

In looking at his numbers this morning, I have to wonder if he didn't go really low last night. IMHO, if you can't test him, don't shoot him. It's unsafe and you are putting him at great risk. It's better for him to spend a day at high numbers from not shooting (and they might not have been all that high) then to spend an hour at too low numbers. And his AMPS is telling me that he might have gone really low sometime yesterday. Safety first. You wouldn't have allowed your relatives to give your child insulin without testing....Morris deserves the same.

Will be leaving in about 20 mins or so to take Morris to the vet! Please keep all your paws crossed - I am still VERY worried about his ECG!

Morris survived his trip to the vet today for his pre-dental work up. This +7 reading was taken just after we got home today. Because I had an exam to write as well this afternoon, Morris was at the vet's office for about 2 hours. He had his labwork drawn (inclduing fructosamine and urine culture), and a routine ECG since his heart drops a beat about once per minute. Since it is a long weekend, I won't be getting any results back until next week :sad: I am curious about his fructosamine, I am not expecting any unusual results in the rest of his labwork, and I am very worried about his ECG. Hopefully all will be well enough for him to proceed with his dental surgery next Thursday!

i think marjorie's right, gwen. looking at morris' ss, he looks like he's bouncing all over the place. to get that high, he had to have gotten really low - and you've got a test of 41 at preshot 3 days ago. if he can get to 41 on this dose one time, he could get there again. he may be hitting low every cycle or two and that could be the reason for these 500+ numbers.

is there some reason you're not testing at every pre-shot, other than yesterday when you were sick? do you need some suggestions to help with a problem? what can we do to help you?

honestly, i'd be hesitant to have the dental on him when he is this unstable, even if the ECG comes back good. if this dose is too high, which a 41 would suggest that it is, and he goes low, combined with the anesthesia it could be a disaster. i'm not trying to scare you, but he looks to be in trouble to me.

Hi Gwen,
We're keeping fingers and paws crossed for good lab results. Julie's advice to hold off on the dental until Morris gets his bgs settled and the right dose determined sounds good to me. You don't need another complicating factor right now, imho.

I do appreciate your advice about the dental. Unfortunately, this dental is not being done as a cosmetic cleaning & an effort to help regulate his numbers - this dental is a much needed operation. He has already lost 1/2 of 1 tooth on his own and he will be having the majority of the rest of his teeth pulled because they are in such a bad state right now. When my vet took a little look in his mouth at his yearly check up back in the beginning of Sept, she said that he would probably be loosing all of his side teeth & quite possibly his 4 big front teeth at a minimum - she won't know for sure until he is put under & she can take a good look in there. I think part of his bouncing numbers is because he is not eating as regularly as he normally does & this is because of his VERY sore teeth! Providing my vet thinks it is safe for Morris to have this dental next week, I will be proceeding.
 
i understand about the dental. punkin had one tooth that was apparently only connected to his gum by tartar (ewww). can't ignore these things. so hmmm, just wondering how to make it as safe as possible for morris. he sounds like he's very precious to you - they're like our babies, aren't they?

what about the testing? is there something there that we can help you with? i'm wondering if the dose is too high, but it's hard to know without some more spot checks.
