Hi Everyone!

Happy Veteran's Day (eve)! I have a veteran at home (hubby) and today and tomorrow off :smile:

I can't remember if I updated Cairo's BG from last week but, rest assured, I DO test her weekly! I think I'm going to start testing her on Saturday's since Sunday and Monday seem to be so hectic for me. Anyway, last week she tested at 62 and this week at 57.

I have a question: Does anyone have any advice on a need to clean Cairo's teeth? The way we found out she had diabetes to begin with was that the vet said she desperately needed her teeth cleaned. We did the pre-cleaning blood work and discovered the diabetes. As you know we've got the diabetes under control but since then 2 of her teeth have fallen out! Poor toothless girl! She's fine with it and it doesn't seem to slow her down at all :razz: So, I guess my question is, what should I do about her teeth?

In the uk we don't have Veterans Day but we have Remembrance Day on 11/11 and wear a red poppy.

I am interested in the answer to your question too. I have never cleaned remi's teeth but always wondered if I should and how to go about doing it.

Congrats of Cairo's remission.
 
Oh yes! Remembrance Day in the UK...forgot about that! I'm going to find (and wear) a red poppy, I love that tradition! Let's both keep checking back for words of wisdom from these amazing folks!
 
If a kitty has bad teeth, unless their heart can't handle the anesthesia, or there's some other reason for concern that your vet identifies, i'd get them cleaned. absolutely. in fact, if you look back at the OTJ trial directions it suggests once you are through the trial and in remission, to keep your kitty's teeth clean. Dental issues can bring a cat out of remission.

I'd choose to do it sooner rather than later, too.

Sarah, we've had a couple of cats that have gotten fairly well regulated, but once they got the dental done they went OTJ. I was kinda surprised Cairo made it because I remember the dental issues have been there all along.

You also have to think about what it must feel like for a cat to have rotting teeth - that's gotta be painful. :sad:

Because of Punkin's acromegaly there were additional concerns with the anesthesia. He had 2 dentals and the second one I took him to a veterinary dentist. It cost a lot, but I wanted the extra level of care and expertise for him.
