Last Night:
HI PMPS
HI +1.5
273 +5
195 +6.75

J.D. went on something like 5 walks yesterday and the last one before I left for work, he was walking back up the hill from the big lawn and I saw him kind of walking on the top of his toe on his right hind, so I consider the walk done and picked him up and put him in the house.

I got home from work at PMPS and after his first feeding, I noticed him walking real low and circling and then his right hind just not work right at all. He had not gotten any Buprenex yesterday because of our schedule being all off because of the fasting blood test and me not remembering the Buprenex until just about when we ended that last walk and by then it was too late to give it (kind of). Anyway, I gave him some Bupe at +1 last night and he was walking standing all the way up and on all four toes, but not walking much as he tends to sleep the night away. I was worried nailbite_smile
He woke me up at 5:00am this morning walking fine and we have had 3 walks today outside.

I did think about the potassium supplement on the way home from the vet yesterday (however, I did not think to ask the vet about it), as he normally gets it at 6:00am and we did not get home from the vet until 10:45am, so he finally got to eat and get his pills almost 5 hours late. So, I figured I could give it every 11 hours until we are back on schedule. I gave it to him at 9:45pm (+3.5) last night and 8:45am this morning, and will do 7:45pm tonight and 6:45am tomorrow, etc.
Does that sound right in my thinking?

At +5.75 today, I got him up from one of his beds in my bedroom, and tested him and he walked up to the cat food bowl and kind of sniffed it, so I added some MC Fancy Feast Medleys and he licked at it for a good long while for him.

I did not like the way he was walking last night, and it scared me. I figured you couldn't help me and he would probably be fine again, by the time I got to the ER, so I just waited it out. :-| alone and scared.
So, I didn't sleep much last night. I kept getting up to check on J.D. I did sleep in some this morning and that was good.

Oh, and the Bupe I gave him this morning he turned his head and I may have gotten more on the outside of his chin than in his mouth. I would like to give him more now. I will wait until 3:30pm, as he got the morning dose at 8:00am (so that will be 7.5 hours). Then I can give him some at 11:30pm tonight, and at 7:30am, 3:00pm, and 11:00pm tomorrow, and then back to 7:00am and 7:00pm when I go back to work. Does that sound okay?

Hi

I am afraid I can't help you with your questions but just wanted to say what an attentive mom you are to JD.

When Remi was on buprenex I wasn't as strict as you are with a dosing schedule. I am sure you don't want to explain the whole thug again but is it to do with his walking?

I do want to ask you about the potassium supplementation. You seem to give it in a strict dosing regime. My vet. Ever mentioned that to me. I use kaminox and the vet Just said to give 1 or 2ml peer day (it's a liquid) so I have just been adding it to remi's food over the course of the day. But three days on he is having a bad time of it and I am wondering if it is to do with the supplement. Did JD ever react to taking it?

Many thanks

Sarah

J.D. was getting Rena Kare Gel which is Vanilla Custard flavored and he hated it. We called it "the Yucky Stuff". It was to be given 1/2 tsp every 12 hours. Now he is getting Tumil K which is a tablet and I'm sure much more constant in the amount he is getting and it is easier to pill it than syringe "the Yucky Stuff".
I just know that too much potassium is not good, so didn't want to give it only 7 hours apart when it is supposed to be every 12 hours.

I wonder if his trouble walking last night had to do with the too much walking during the day, the lack of buprenex, or the late Tumil K, or maybe from the cypro I gave him.
I've seen him walk on the top of that toe before, but it was a while ago, and it was during a long walk.

Hi Dyana. I doubt what happened was from the Tumil-K unless his potassium was way high. Then again I don't know the symptoms of that. It could be pain from the lack of bupe though. I wish I had an answer. :YMHUG:

I hope you never experience that again though.

I'm sorry about what happened with J.D. I'm glad he's walking better today. I don't know about the potassium, but your schedule to adjust the bupe sounds like a good one. I give bupe to my cat that has stomach cancer. I have to work around my work schedule, so it is not always every 8 hours. I've never had any problems if it was a little bit shorter than 8 hours.

Hi Dyana,
Just a note from my own (human) experience: J.D. may have overdone it with all that walking!

I'm so glad he's doing better today. Good luck with getting answers to your meds questions.

Lots of hugs and scritches, and good wishes for a restful night!!

I'm glad J.D. was doing better this morning, and I hope he continues to do better this evening, too. Maybe he did just walk to much. Sending prayers along!!!!
