11/06 AMPS 302 Mumf up for an increase?

I haven’t been able to get a whole lot of mid-cycle readings because I’ve been working and also have school all this weekend. I won’t be able to do a curve until Monday because I have Monday and Tuesday off. So I’ve had my sugar cat on one unit for a few days now and the numbers I’ve seen were OK but not great. I am thinking of going back up to 1.5 units on Sunday evening because I have Monday and Tuesday off and will be able to watch him closely. Plus, then I only have three days of work, Friday will be a half day, so it feels safer to wait until then to increase the dose. I haven’t spoken to the vet because she still hasn’t called me back but from what I can tell it looks like she’s pretty much had us on SLGS.

You all are probably wondering what exactly I’m looking for! :) I would just appreciate if someone could look at the spreadsheet and tell me if my idea to go back up to 1.5 seems sound. I feel kind of left alone by my vet and would really appreciate a little bit of input. Thanks!

I think that he might be a little less active on one unit than on 1.5 and it seems as though the low number we saw on 1.5 had something to do with him not eating that day after all.. i think there was something wrong with the food. I switched to another brand. He hasn’t been inappetent since.
 
Hi Jana, if you are following SLGS you need to hold the dose for 7 days and do a curve, before changing the dose, if it is needed to be changed.
You have only held the dose for 4 1/2 days so far.
Will Sunday evening be the 7 days? If so could you do a curve maybe at night when you are home before Sunday night?
Also if you were going to increase, you would only increase to 1.25 units.
 
Oh ok I see.. I need to learn a lot more about all of this. I’ve been relying on my vet for dosing but I’m not getting a lot of feedback lately. We had originally gone from .5 to 1 unit to 1.5 to 1.75. She had wanted me to decrease the dose from 1.5 to 1 unit just for one evening when he was low but I decided to stay on the dose for a few cycles for the advice given on this message board..
I think Monday evening it will have been seven days, so I guess I will be doing a curve on Tuesday.

I keep wondering if I should be switching to tight regulation but I also feel like I’m just lacking an essential understanding of all of this still, no matter how many times I read up on everything. I’ve also emailed my vet again.
 
In order to do TR you need to be able to get a minimum of 2 tests every cycle and some mid cycle tests. It sounds for now like SLGS is better suited to your schedule.
 
good point. I get up very early and have a long commute most days of the week.
Usually I can do a lot of testing on the weekend, I usually don’t have school on weekends, this is a make up class for one that had to be skipped a few months ago. But you’re right, my schedule is stressful enough as it is I think.

It can be hard juggling work/life and looking after an FD kitty.
He’s a lucky boy to have you looking after him.

You have a lot going on right now. You can always change to TR later even if you start with SLGS. See how it goes. I agree with Bron that he’s lucky to have you b
