Ok - finally got the numbers from Tammy and have done up the SS (thanks, Jill! )

As you can see, spot checks are practically non-existent. Both Tammy and her DH work all day, but I do need to get them to start doing evening and weekend spot checks.

He was doing OK on the 2u, the consistent dose was making the BGs far more consistent. Unfortunately, after his last curve, they decided to decrease - based on how well he did coming from a higher sliding scale to the 2u. I think they don't quite get the idea yet, but we are working on it. Coming from a DKA background, I would have preferred staying at 2u for a while longer or even going up to 2.25u for a while.

Anyway ... comments welcome and I will pass them on.

Thanks!

looking at your post title, I thought you were handing out some spirits,
Anyway, not going to give dosing advise, but to me it does look like more insulin is needed. There needs to be more spot checks for Whiskey, as you said to see what is going on between tests. Maybe they can adjust hours somewhat so that they can get a +11 or +11.5 and then get some in the evening before going to bed and the occasional sleep test.
You are doing a great job helping these guys out and giving them some direction. I'm sure it is well appreciated, Karen.

thank you for getting a ss up for whiskey. when your day comes, you'll be going straight to heaven!

lots of peeps, probably the majority, work outside the home. unless they're gone 12 hours straight, those out the door & in the door spot checks can be done. many have even adjusted their shot times so they're able to get a +1 or +2 before they walk out the door in the morning. the +1 *should* be higher than the ps number and the +2 *should* be about the same as the ps number. if they're not, more monitoring may be needed until they "know" their cat. evening and weekend spot checks are a must and we encourage everyone to at least get a before bed spot check every night.

i really don't understand their vet's rational for decreasing the dose especially for a kitty who has been in DKA. based on that one curve? ugh. it *appears* more insulin (not less) is needed, but as you've already pointed out, more spot checks are needed.

i think you're on the right track with them, karen. more spot checks and checking urine for ketones every day is really important.

Jill, I think what happened is that I convinced the vet - too well!- that she was raised too high, too fast when we went back to 2u, so she is checking to see if the 1.5u is better. But if we don't see the numbers coming down over the next few days, I will suggest back to 2u for a few days and then up again. Sound good?

There will be no checks for the next 3 days. They are going away, so her parents are going to give the shot, but won't check BGs or ketones. Personally, I'd be happier with going back to the 2u just beacuse of ketones, but ...

Thank you, everyone.

darn, deb...i showed up here with an empty shot glass too...

karen... i too think there will be a special place in the afterlife reserved for you...it's great what you are doing for whiskey...
