For once, I'm actually hoping for an active blue cycle today! I arranged to work from home so I can monitor Regs and hopefully learn a little more about his drops and how he responds to his regular LC snacks.

BUT of course, now that I'm home, he's not giving me any of his usual signs of an active cycle. His numbers were pretty flat all night, and there was no downward momentum leading up to AMPS like on his last active morning. Typical Regs ๐Ÿ˜‚

I will stick to our normal workday feeding schedule, including his +3 snack in the feeder, to see how he does without me constantly interfering with extra food.
On a positive note, I finally got some decent sleep last night! I went to bed after +3 and didn't test again until +10, even though I woke up briefly in between. That felt really good after all those exhausting nights.

Let's see what Regs has planned for today!

Regs enjoys that the temperatures are going down a bit

I love how vibrant his coat is!! ๐Ÿ˜ป

Sorry he's not giving you some activity today when you're home, but glad you were able to get some proper sleep last night. Such a fine balance between wanting their numbers to be surfing lower but also the added monitoring/lack of sleep when it happens.

Hope you see some activity (safely) today! ๐Ÿค—

Thank you so much, Briana! His coat has actually gotten so much nicer again since we started getting his diabetes a bit under control ๐Ÿฅฐ Before he stopped grooming himself and he had big fur balls everywhere.

You're so right about that balance! I absolutely love seeing those beautiful blue numbers and I start getting disappointed when we dont get any, but they also scare me when I'm at work and can't be there to monitor him. It's such a strange feeling to be happy about good numbers and anxious about them at the same time ๐Ÿ˜‚

I was really hoping he'd give me one of those nice cycles today while I'm home to watch him, but it looks Regs had other plans. But his +4 is actually looking promising! Maybe we'll make it into the blues after all!

I see blue! ๐Ÿ’™. A nice steady normal Lantus cycle.

I'm glad to see you are getting more sleep. There will likely be cycles in the future when you need to pay more attention, but your task for now is to learn when you can go to sleep, and when you need to be more alert. I spent time reviewing Neko's spreadsheet before going to bed, trying to see patterns of a few cycles that looked like what I was currently seeing.

Thanks, Wendy! I was actually a little disappointed this morning when he didn't start dropping, so I expected a flat cycle and didn't think I'd learn much today. Regs proved me wrong again ๐Ÿ˜‚

I'm curious why he's dropping so much later today. Do you think his earlier, steeper drops were caused by breaking bounces, since his glucose was already dropping before his AM shot? And could today's curve be more like his normal Lantus cycle?

When I saw that he was stable at +3 last night, I felt comfortable going to bed, since his cycles tend to stay flatter when he doesn't start dropping early. And I feel so much better today after finally getting some decent sleep!

I do catch myself constantly comparing his numbers and trying to predict how the current or next cycle might develop, but so far my predictions are rarely right!

Or today was a bounce breaking cycle, which often has later nadirs. Flat yellow cycles can recede bounce breaking cycles.
I think you might be right about the later nadir on a bounce-breaking cycle, Wendy! He continued dropping even after eating his regular LC lunch, going from 121 to 104 in a little less than 1 hour. I wanted to see the blue numbers but I guess I need to be careful in what I am asking for. Hope he doesn't drop much more ๐Ÿ˜“

Wendy, may I ask where you learned so much about feline diabetes? Is it mostly from experience with Neko, or are there any resources you'd recommend for learning more?
I've downloaded the 2026 AAHA Diabetes Management Guidelines for cats, which I've found really helpful, but I'd love to learn even more.

First green! Woohoo, well done Reg. And glad to see he is on his way up.

Wendy, may I ask where you learned so much about feline diabetes?
Looking at spreadsheets for 14 years now. For hundreds of cats. And reading posts from others here. Plus the help of some of the more experienced folks here. Jill (of Jill and Alex) and LIbby were great teachers, as well as Marje and Sienne. I also learned a lot from Neko who made me read a ton of research papers, especially about acromegaly, but also some on diabetes and her other conditions. Julie (and punkin) also helped on the acro side of things. Read the Stickyโ€™s and the links in the Sticky Notes. Take your time, there is a lot in there. I still occasionally reread the Stickyโ€™s.

I sympathize hard with this! Going in can stress me out. Some days I'll check his +2 and see him coming down and so I come home early from work because he has late nadirs and then I'll find he's bumped up. Argh!!

But congrats on the first green!!!! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ’š Looks like it was worth working from home after all!

Wow, 14 years and hundreds of cats?! That's an incredible amount of experience. Thank you so much for sharing! I'll definitely take a closer look at the Stickies and their links as well as every scientific paper I can find. I really appreciate everything you've taught me already!

Congrats on your first green!!! That's so exciting for you and Regs!! And he's coming up very nicely.
Thank you so much, Im still a little in shock from the green, we were so close to reduction, for me way to close. Just wonder what happened here, I'm sure Wendy was right and he broke a bounce but his numbers were not high in the last days.
I wish he would come up a bit faster, I'm already concerned what I might do if the PMPS is under 200. I'm sure he will bounce from the green though

I don't know - this could be a good chance to shoot low to stay low! You're an experienced caregiver now so shooting blues shouldn't be a problem as long as you're there to monitor :)

And bounce breaks for whatever reason tend to have more downward momentum than the typical cycle, so that may be it. I hope Regs comes up very slightly and gently for you this evening!

Thanks so much, the green was very surprising. I am so glad I had this work from home day, first I was disappointed that he did not drop early but I got all dropping anxiety later, followed by what happens if he does not go back up ๐Ÿ˜‚

I'm very thankful that I just have a 10 min drive to work and if I am concerned that he might be too low I can just sneak out and be back in 30 min, others take that as a coffee break. But we had that too already, some days I was stressed all day that he might be low, and coming home he was at 300.

Great job today Britta, congratulations to you and Regs on the lovely ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’•โค๏ธ
Iโ€™m so happy you got some rest. It makes all the difference in the world, doesnโ€™t it?

Hopefully, he will continue having lovely blue surfs and heading into safe greens as you get used to these colors ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š

Heโ€™s so adorable, I love his photo. He looks so soft and kissable
Have a safe surf tonight ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ„โ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿˆ

Thank you so much, Staci!
You're right, getting a good night's sleep makes such a difference and I felt so good in the morning! Let's hope he will give me a good night, but I'm almost sure he will go into a bounce.
I'm slowly getting used to seeing those beautiful blues, although I'm not quite sure I'm ready for greens yet, Regs being under 100 mg made me very nervous, mostly because I did not want him to go under 90 that we would have to reduce the Lantus ๐Ÿ˜‚

And yes, Regs is as soft as he looks, he has a lot of fur and gets lots of kisses, whether he wants them or not- most times he does not.

Thank you for always being so kind and encouraging. I really appreciate your support, it means a lot โค๏ธ
