Wow, his numbers are just all over the place. I guess this is a bounce, but it seems to be becoming a habit lately. He eats FF Turkey & Giblets; I wonder if the rumors that they have changed the formulas have anything to do with these numbers? I do know that the consistency of the last two cases I've used has been different, a lot smoother than I'm used to seeing.

Lizzie, I'm trying some Purina Pro Plan True Nature foods, interspersed with the FF, to see if it makes a difference. They had it for lunch today and really seemed to like it, and it's below 3% carbs. Fingers and paws crossed!
 
Okay, I know I'm out of my mind, so don't bother pointing this out to me, lol, but I bought toothpaste and a toothbrush for Squallie. This should be an interesting experiment in exactly how much skin I am willing to lose in order to maybe help his mouth! Anyway, my concern is the ingredients of the toothpaste - I'm sure they are safe, I bought it from a very reputable company whose other products I also use. I just don't know if they are okay for a sugar kitty. This is the list:

Sorbitol, Glycerin, Silica, Calcium Pyrophosphate, Calcium Carbonate, Poultry Extract, Purified Water, Cellulose Gum, Sodium Benzoate, Calcium Lactate, Potassium Thiocyanate, Zinc Gluconate, Vitamin E, Glucose Oxidase, Lactoperoxidase, Lactoferrin, Lysozyme.

If anything in this list jumps out and says, "I'm bad for diabetic kitties!", please sing out and let me know!

Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol. I don't know if it's good. It is different than sugar. That is what Splenda is made from.

I was reading about azithromax (spelling?) Given for 30 days. Was being effective for stomatis and gingivitis effectively. I didn't get into to much though, if I had know before I would have asked for Smokey. Might be worth checking into.

That's quite a drop for Squallie. I hope he doesn't bounce back up. I'm not sure about the toothpaste, but the Glucose Oxidase jumped out at me too. I don't know what it is though.

I went hunting today. I was trying to find Cats in the Kitchen Fowl Ball because I need low Phos along with low carb. I started at a small ma/pa shop that carries special food and home made treats, etc. I was talking with the owners about our issues with FF - he told me that FF was sold to Hills - and more than likely we were dealing with a formula change. They didn't have the Cat in the Kitchen so I went on to Natural Pawz and they didn't have it either. I ended up getting some Instinct Chicken. I am not going to try it yet but will next weekend or the following week. Gizmo is going to have an insulin increase tonight and don't want to complicate that with a known low carb food.

Of course, I just received the two cases of FF I ordered last week. :banghead: The way it is going, I could start my own pet food store.

I will be watching to see how Squallies does with the Purina Pro.

Good luck with the tooth brush - lol. Gizmo would have NONE of it, I can tell you that. :D

I used the Instinct foods for my IBD baby, the Limited Ingredient ones. I tried them on my other cats and unfortunately none of them would eat it. :(
Very wise not to change diet and dose at the same time!

Me, too, just got three cases because I was on an autoship program. I typically order 12 cases of food at the first of the month, plus all the toppings and lo-carb lunch treats, so I can relate to feeling like your own pet store, lol. I keep more pet food on hand than I do people food!

Lol, it should be interesting. I don't think it's going to get the Squallie Seal of Approval, probably not by a longshot!o_O:rolleyes:

I only got 4 cans (about 2 days worth). I see if he eats it but he eats just about anything so I am hopeful. It is not on the low phosphorus list but his phos level is good right now so a couple of cans will be OK.

I used the lamb and the duck varieties because I needed to keep my IBD baby away from chicken. They really did not care for them, but they probably would have eaten the chicken!
 
When I went to get kitten food, I went to Petsmart. I was surprises that there was only 1 kitten food brand in the store. It was Authority. And there was very little of any cat food on the shelves. When I got home and looked it up, I discovered it was Petsmart brand. When did that happen? All these changes in pet food are scary.

This is interesting. According to their website, it's still a Purina product, and Purina is owned by Nestle. I wonder if it was just an industry roomer going around?

Punkin developed low thyroid from the radiation treatment he got to treat the acromegaly. When the radiation is aimed at the pituitary gland, sometimes it also hits the thyroid gland. It's kind of unusual for a cat to develop low thyroid on its own, but I suppose it happens sometimes. If you decide to have Squallie's rechecked, you might want to either look back at the condo - was it Thursday, maybe - where I mentioned the exact tests to get? Or look at punkin's ss lab tab where it says which thyroid breakdown tests we had done.

Even though I knew that low thyroid was a potential result of the SRT, I kept thinking that the 0.8 test results that showed him in normal range meant that his thyroid was still normal. I was really surprised when the other tests showed it was extremely low. Fortunately, it's easy to supplement low thyroid.

As far as the toothpaste goes, I don't know about those ingredients but I'd suspect that just using the toothbrush and water would do some good.
