Good Morning, LL, and TGIF!!
Just now I realized that in Karre's 8th OTJ Day condo yesterday, I forgot to mention that a little while before he had that little lift into the blues, Karre and Henry had a bit of a spat, and Karre stalked off in a huff. That *may* have contributed to his BG. Overall, he's doing great. My usual BG-related paranoia is kicking in given the fact that, as Jill reminded us happens sometimes, Karre's average BG during this 2nd stint on Lantus and during this 2nd OTJ-Trial is a little higher than it was in both situations back in 2008. Not *much* higher.
2008 Averages
9th Nov - 15th Nov (OTJ Day 2): 7-Day BG Average 4.4/79
9th Nov - 22 Nov (OTJ Day 9): 14-Day BG Average 4.5/81
2012 Averages
27th Jul - 2 Aug (OTJ Day 1): 7-Day BG Average 5.3/95
27th Jul - 9 Aug (OTJ Day 8): 14-Day BG Average 5.3/95
Past 30-Day BG Average: 5.2/94
So I *know* Karre is where he should be, in the green, healthy, safe, OTJ-range. But come on, YOur Majesty, can't you throw in a few readings in the 60s and 70s, just to put my mind at rest? That ca. 15-point difference (from average around 80 to average around 95) isn't significant enough to really make me concerned. I suppose it's just bothering me a little. The only other difference from 2008 to 2012 is something DH brought up this morning - that in 2008, the SS reflects readings taken during hot spring/summer season, whereas the current 2012 readings are taken during our present, cold winter/spring season... From the few things I've been able to find and read about the effects of temperature/climate on blood sugar levels, there does seem to be at least a possibility that it may be a factor. Apparently, according to this British diabetes forum (for human diabetics), diabetics tend to have highers HbA1c-levels in colder months, and the decreased activity-levels that often can (and do, noticeably, with Karre) coincide with colder temperatures may also cause the BGs to creep up a bit. There is the suggestion, on these webpages, that the cold may also decrease insulin absorption. So far, I haven't been able to turn up much more reading material, and none at all on *feline* diabetics and their sensitivity to temperatures and their potential effects on BG levels. It *is* a topic that seems interesting to me. Has anyone else noticed a possible connection between heat/cold and related effects on BG levels?
Overall: Jill & Co. - anything here you think isn't as it should be at this stage in the OTJ-Trial?
WCR is fabulous. All 5 Ps present. Karre is napping on Jack's desk, helping Jack with his work no doubt by giving him a lovely accompanying melody of royal snores.
Off I go to do some maths. TGIF!
