YESTERDAY'S CONDO:
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=126620

I'm starting to wonder if I did mix up the pens. I'll use this one again tonight and if I don't get any action, I'll try the other open one I guess. He might not be coming down because of the fur he vomited last night though . I know he bounced from the green but it no longer looks like a bounce to me. Max was wheezing during the night. I don't like this at all.

Re: 10/9 MAX AMPS 230

Lots of light, lots of prayers, Elise. For Max. Your mom. You.

Hacking has affected Polly's numbers. I think.

Re: 10/9 MAX AMPS 230+2/276+4/250

Thanks, Marilyn. The fur thing was last night. She's mellow yellow still. I'll use the pen tonight and if no action try the other opened one. Both are newly opened. We just thought the first was no good. I have one more left to try. I hate to waste them all if it's just Max needing more insulin.

I hope the next pen works. Sending prayers and hugs to you and Max and for your mom. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

I hope you see some action tonight....c'mon, Max, work the juice!

Sending prayers all around.....

Re: 10/9 MAX AMPS 230+2/276+4/250+6/205

Elise, did you try making some kind of mark on each pen so you can keep them sorted out? You don't want to keep trying the same one!

I hope you see some action tonight, and if not, that another pen does the trick.

Sending lots of healing vines for Max's wheezing and for your DM, also. She's still in my prayers, and so are you. :YMHUG:

Re: 10/9 MAX AMPS 230+2/276+4/250+6/205+8/193 PMPS 171

Amy, I have the pens separated. I wasn't sure which one was the newest yesterday though. At the time I had one in front and one in back but with so much on my mind I wasn't sure which was which. I've been using the same one since I got confused though. He could be reacting to the green from the night before last, the vet visit, or the insulin. I truly doubt the pens are bad. It's just a shame I screwed up because now there is the doubt again. I guess the wheezing could have something to do with this as well. I don't know. My vet didn't give me anything for him so he doesn't think it is having an effect on him.
Thanks for the visits Carla, Amy, and Tricia.

Hi Elise,

Sorry to hear that Max is still wheezing. I understand how stressful it is. I get so nervous every time Billie coughs. Have you looked into changing litter? I have been doing a lot of research on litter and found that the worst option for kitties with breathing issues is anything that has silica in it - that includes almost all clay clumping litters with the exception of Dr. Elsey's. I'm not sure what Max is used to, but if you already use clay, Dr. Elsey's Respiratory Relief might be good to try. It is 100% clay with no silica, and the consistency is the same as all clay litter, so he might not care that it's different. Billie didn't mind. Of course, now I'm going a step further and trying to change to paper litter, which she does mind.

Pine, corn, and wheat are also options to try. I have found mixed reviews on literally every litter option out there, so it may be a trial and error thing if you want to investigate it. Just a thought - I hope it starts to get better soon!

Re: 10/9 MAX AMPS 230+2/276+4/250+6/205+8/193 PMPS 171+2.5/7

Thanks for the suggestion, Deanna. I do use scoop away so the clay alternative might be worth a try. Max has never had a problem going outside the box and I sure don't want to upset the apple cart but maybe that would work. I will never try corn or wheat as I already have a major problem with moths and silverfish. I haven't been reading much the past several days but I'm happy to see the hives and coughing might soon be a thing of the past. Fingers and paws are crossed for you and Billie.

Laura, it looks like it was something other than the pen. Max just took a big dive from 171 to 75. I did give him a tad more insulin because the bubble looked bigger though. I just gave him some mc to hopefully stop him from going much further with so much time left. I didn't see this coming.

Re: 10/9 MAX AMPS 230+2/276+4/250+6/205+8/193 PMPS 171+2.5/7

if you didn't see it coming, that probably means max is feeling pretty pleased with himself about now! :-D

lookslike he's been clearing a bounce since am+2 this morning - not too fast until the last test, though.

i wanted to check in on you to see how max and your mom are doing. :YMHUG:

Re: 10/9 MAX AMPS 230+6/205+8/193 PMPS 171+2.5/75+3.5/42

He took a big drop again, 42 on one meter, 36 on the other. I just gave him karo and mc.

My mom got fluids at the doctor and it took to long so will get a scan tomorrow to see if they can do anything for her pain. So far no explanation other than pain for why she is sleeping and can't keep her eyes open.

Thanks for checking in on us, Julie.

Re: 10/9 MAX AMPS 230+6/205+8/193 PMPS 171+2.5/75+3.5/42

Looks like the pen is working! Maybe you should see a different vet about the bronchitis? There must be something that can be done.

I'm so sorry about your mom. My mom does the same thing...can't keep her eyes open. Sometimes it's the pain meds. But more often it's because she has a sleep disorder and refuses to use her CPAP and so her oxygen is low and she can't keep her eyes open.

Hoping they find answers.

Re: 10/9 MAX AMPS 230+6/205+8/193 PMPS 171+2.5/75+3.5/42

Marje might be on to something about the CPAP, Elise. Has your DM been evaluated for sleep apnea? My DH has really seen a difference since he started using a CPAP.

Max, are you trying to drive your bean crazy? If so, you're doing a great job! You must have been taking lessons from Jersey! Slow your roll, dude! Cinco and China are in the lagoon tonight. Why don't you hook up with them?

Re: 10/9 MAX AMPS 230+PMPS 171+2.5/75+3.5/42/37+4.5/47

One of the doctors mentioned evaluating her for sleep apnea a couple of hospitalizations ago. She said it could even be done in her house. I will ask about that. Good idea. She is a mouth breather. I don't know if she would wear anything though. That would likely be a real challenge. Thanks Marje and Tricia.

Max is definitely giving me a hard time now. He is enjoying his favorite hc food fortunately but not coming up yet. I hope the next test will show a rise. Maybe I gave him a tad more than I thought or else he was clearing the bounce and got the little bit more that I thought I gave him. This will surely set him back. Maybe less food is contributing as well. This was the second day of his diet.

About the bronchitis, my vet felt it wasn't bad enough to warrant any type of treatment at this time. The wheezing doesn't happen all the time. I'll see how it goes between now and the next few weeks before we run the labs that need to be rechecked.

Re: 10/9 MAX AMPS 230+PMPS 171+2.5/75+3.5/42/37+4.5/47+5/61/

They sent a machine home with my DH to wear overnight, then we took it back and they analyzed it and found he had sleep apnea. I didn't think he'd wear the mask as he has always moved around a lot when he sleeps, but with the CPAP he is much quieter when he sleeps and no more snoring! YAY!!! Worth looking into for your DM. He feels much better, less tired during the day, since he started wearing it.

Cinco is surfing green, too, although he didn't go as low as Max did. I hope you can get him stabilized so you can get some rest.
