Hi

I had quite a night of it yesterday as the recent increase sent Remi's preshot level lower than in has ever seen and I panicked abit.

I posted a thread on the tight regulation forum here

viewtopic.php?f=9&t=126633

In essence the lower dose made me nervous to shot the newer .75 dose and so I waited and went back to 0.5. He had lots of nice blue numbers and in hindsight perhaps I should have kept my nerve and the same dose. But I didn't. This morning remi is back in the red and his dose is still at 0.5. I have not been at home to test him but mum hS been popping in to check he is ok.

But what do tonight. Go back to the 0.75 dose? Stick with the 0.5 even though I wasn't enough before? Go for a 0.6 dose if I can?

I think I am beginning to understand the shot low to stay low but just don't know what to do for the best now. How do I shoot to clear the bounce ?

Also I seem to have a bubble in my lantus. Not sure how? Do I have to throw it away!

Any help gratefully received.

Okay now that I played catch up, you did great last night when in doubt error on the side of safety for the kitty.

I would also go back to the .75, its kind of a catch 22 in the beginning you want lower numbers but when they happen they scare the bejeepers out of us. Think this was scary wait until you shoot you first green preshot.. @-) nailbite_smile

He's back in the red today from two things the reduced dose last night and that being slightly late at that. And because he went lower and stayed lower than his body was use to so he put on his Tigger costume and went boing boing boing. Now it's going to take him a couple of days to clear the bounce and settle down again so don't worry if his numbers get kinda wonky for a few days.

His best chance at remission is if we can get him on a dose that holds him in that 50-120 range most of the time. The longer he stays in that range the more chance his pancreas has a chance to heal and take over again.

Now go give him a kiss on the nose and a ear scritch for being a great kitty cat and putting up with a momma that loves him to death but is just a touch crazy right now... ohmygod_smile (We all were in the beginning thank God our cats love us as much as we do them).

Thanks so much Mel

I guess I will just have to put my big girl pants on tonight and shoot that higher dose again

Remi seemed so much more like his normal self when he was in the blues last night. I definitely want a repeat of that and now I understand a little more that shooting lantus -that shooting the same dose low does not mean you will the same drop as shooting the same dose high. My head understands that at least, no sure my nerves do :?

Do you think an air bubble in the lantus cartridge is okay? I checked online and the company mention expelling air bubbles in their leaflets so I think that means it isn't uncommon and won't ruin the insulin.

Tonight shall I test at +1, +3, + 4? To start with ?

An air bubble isn't that uncommon and won't effect the insulin at all. You just don't want to shoot air in from the syringe because it can carry traces of the lubricant which over time may degrade the insulin some.

As far as testing. Test as much as you like every test is one more point of data that completes the picture. Especially just starting out as it also calms the nerves. Once you start seeing the patterns that Remi gives you, you'll gain confidence in when he's safe and doesn't need you watching like a hawk and when you need to stay on top of things.

Hi Mel

Remi is refusing to take off that tigger outfit. At + 10 he was 410 . His PS tonight was 423 and I've done his +1 and it was 430. I think I will probably just take a +3 and then call it a night to catch up on some sleep.

Your Tigger comment made me thing of a photo I saved off Instagram . I tried to post it but it was too big. Can't remember how I resized remi avatar. Does anyone remember the website you can use?

hi sarah, remi is a doll! ur doing a great job. the site i used is http://www.picresize.com/

hope that helps. larry says hi! hes in awful numbers now bc of his low numbers last night. hope he and remi r down soon. i know its frustrating! i finally woke up at 4 am to chk on him, after sleeping thru the alarm over an hr. thank God he was ok, but i cdnt really ever go back to sleep.
good luck. glad ur here!

I've used Microsoft Paint to resize an image to no bigger than 480*480 pixels.

You open the image and save it under a new name first, so you don't mess up the original.

If the cat is only a small portion of the photo, you can use a rectangular selection tool to outline the section you want to keep, then edit, crop.
(Save and save often)
Now, check the resize option and select pixels; make the largest dimension 480 and the other should autoadjust to scale.
Save this.

Voila! C'est un avatar.

I have to admit the thought of having to get up throughout the night to check BG fills me with dread. Remi was so poorly a couple of years ago and I had to get up all throughout the night to check on him and give him medication. It was so draining both physically and emotionally but of course we just want to best for our cats. Do you leave food out for him to eat if he gets low?

Hope Larry's numbers improve soon.

As Remi's numbers improve, you'll see more and more of that, and it's wonderful. There's a lot of stress and fear in this dance, but also much joy as we see our little ones starting to feel better. Every time I struggle with the poking and prodding, I hang on for dear life to the prospect of giving Saoirse more of those happy moments.

I can be of no help here as I myself still need it but reading your discussion put a smile on my face so I just wanted to wish you more blue numbers for your sweet Remi and good luck with the big pants Bridget Jones  :YMHUG: A lot of kitties here pretent to be tigers lately grr_red and this drives me personally crazy but sometimes what we can do is only wait and see what happens next. nailbite_smile

I have to say that I loved the bridget jones books :-D and am glad that my threads might be helpful to others and also contain a little bit of fun ;-) No blue numbers yet, in fact I think he might be bouncing a little today or maybe even has something coined on the forum 'new dose wonkiness' but I am still hoping to see the blues soon.
