Yesterday's Condo

Ah yes, late again. Can't really say there's much worth waiting for here. Nice blue surf today, perfect for when Mamabean has to be gone (even tho Daddybean was here and did get the +4). Good appy, lazy day. Nothing to complain about.

I decided not to take Minka to have her thyroid levels checked because I discovered I'd forgotten to give her her pill last night! :o ohmygod_smile That is the second time in a week - and I've never forgotten before! The problem is that I changed the time I was giving the med, because I had been doing it more on a 14-10 schedule instead of a 12-12. I figured 12-12 was better, so I was trying to get that set up. I guess I'll go back to the old way - at least she always got her pill! Anyway, she hasn't been doing the things that had me a little concerned the past few days, so maybe I was being a worrywart for nothing.

Harvey, however, did get to take the nice, long, noisy ride to the vet (he complained all the way there, as usual). He continued to be his dear, uncooperative self by bleeding really, really slowly! His favorite tech, Jean, said it took forever to fill the vial - drip, drip, drip! She had to stick him a couple of times, hoping to get a better flow. They only tested his BUN and Creatinine, as that was what was elevated previously. The vet just called to say both were slightly above normal, and she wants to recheck in a month to see if they keep going up, or if they're just fluctuating a little. They are still considerably lower than they were last January when we decided to switch to low Phosphorus food. She said that even that small amount of elevation in those levels could be causing his clear liquid barf, and to keep giving him pepcid when it happens. She also wants me to be even more diligent about making sure he gets enough water (he does drink a fair amount, and I add some to his food at every meal). She said if his numbers go as high as they were before again, we might have to start giving him sub-qs! :o I am praying really hard that this does not happen, as trying to give my little shark (the perpetual motion machine) fluids would be a major nightmare!

Sasha ate about 1/3 of her breakfast this morning, and I left the rest nearby. The plate was empty when Harvey and I got home, and no one else would have eaten it, as I had buried it in Forti Flora. :-D I spoke to the vet about her lack of appetite, and she recommended I ask the oncologist for an appetite stimulant. She didn't want to prescribe one herself, as she didn't know if there were issues to consider with the chemo. She said it is perfectly fine if she just eats baby food, and that possibly the higher fat in the cat food is bothering her just now. I felt much better after talking to her, but if this continues I will ask Dr. S about a stimulant. Sasha came downstairs after I got home and indicated she was hungry, so I gave her about 1/3 of a jar of baby food. She hopped away happy.

Sending healing vines to all in need, and hugs to all their beans. :YMHUG: Extra prayers for Amy's DF, Lyresa's DF, Elise's DM and Wendy's DM. Anne, Liz and Tillie are still in our thoughts and prayers, too. Many hugs to them. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 10/9 Cinco AMPS 150 +2 107 +4 104 +7 131

Hey Cinco! You up for a splash tonight? I haven't decided if I'm going just yet (had so much fun at the party last night I'm still a little waterlogged) but I'll try to come..or at least be on the shore watching for sharks!~ China

Very nice cycle today! At least it's a more normal one!

Now for the big question...what will the night bring?

Maybe if you put Minka's meds next to Cinco's insulin, it'll remind you to give it every 12? You also have to remember that prior to Cinco's surgery, you had one HECK of a crazy medication schedule and now you don't, so that probably figures in to forgetting to give Minka hers on time. Your daily life used to pretty much revolve around medications, didn't it?

Poor Harvey....first having to take that awful car ride, then having to get stuck several times to give an adequate sample for his tests. Sounds like his numbers are fairly stable but just wonky enough to maybe be causing the problems with the puking. Hopefully the Pepcid will continue to help him and his numbers will come back down to where they were in January.

It's great that they said Sasha could continue to eat the baby food too! Especially since that seems to be the one thing you can almost always guarantee to get down her! I know it's not "nutritionally complete", but it's a whole lot better than nothing! Hoping that the oncologists have something to offer to help stimulate her appetite. I know when I give China a crumb of cypro, she'll take down a water buffalo if one will wander close enough!

Re: 10/9 Cinco AMPS 150 +2 107 +4 104 +7 131

Chris, I think of that description every time Cinco has one of his voracious fits - usually when he's dropping - and can't get the food into his mouth fast enough! It makes me chuckle every time! I can just see him and China chasing down a water buffalo and having a feast!

Yes, I agree the change in Cinco's meds had a part in my forgetting Minka's. When he was on the AB, I gave both their meds at the same time, and that was 12 & 12. Now it's just hers and much easier to forget. The problem with doing it at shot time is that I'm asleep at Cinco's am t/f/s and DH is not excited about taking on another duty at that time - he already gets stressed about having to make sure Cinco is eating when he shoots - he carpools a couple days a week and doesn't have a lot of extra time in the am. Minka is very easy to pill, so maybe I can talk him into it. I used to give her morning dose with her breakfast (around 9:00 am), and evening dose with dinner (around 6:30), but I thought it really should be 12/12, so I started that when Cinco went on the AB. :YMSIGH: Nothing can ever be easy, can it?

Nice day for your guy. :-D Remembering all the meds for multiple cats is a challenge! Sending appy vines for Sasha and tummy vines for Harvey. The crumb of cypro worked for Zener, for a long time. Thank you for thinking of us. We are very sad but we're doing ok. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Hi Tricia,
I think you need a personal assistant! Or one of those pill timers that opens up the way the auto feeders do and beeps, just to be sure?

Anyway, today may have been hectic, but at least all your kitties are doing pretty well. Have a good evening!

I do not envy your medication schedule with all the different kittehs....when Skooter had his exploratory surgery several years ago, I had a hard enough time with the three times a day liquids, two times a day pills and three times a day pills....I can't imagine having to remember different medications or different animals!

Hey Cinco....not sure iz makin it down tonight...iz gots a bit more way to go cuz I started tonight at 164....but maybes wez can make it down there and get some other kittehs to join....iz had so much fun last night, wez can do it again tonight!! Skooter

Any time I've multiple cats with multiple meds, I've had to write it down, or I would surely forget or do something wrong.

I give Trix Pepcid BID these days to prevent the tummy acid spit up all together. I don't know if that's idea or not, but I figure staying ahead of it must make her feel better. I've heard that starting them with a mainteance dose of 2.5mg pepcid at bedtime is helpful. With Trix, we were thrown into the fire this past screen, so we never really worked up to our current dose, which is really the max.

I hope you guys are having a great evening!

I'm with Amy on that one. I actually made a list of cats, meds to give, and times to give then. Then I marked each one off the list when it was done. (See, "elephant memory" really doesn't have an elephant memory after all. ;-) )

How about the cone update? Have you tried removing it yet?

Sending lots of vines for all of the kitters tonight - anti-stress vines for Harvey after the trip to the place that shall not be named, "good numbers" vines for both Harvey and Minka, appy vines for Sasha, and continued healing vines for Cinco. That's a lot of vines for a lot of kitties, so maybe some anti-stress vines and hugs are needed for you? I'm piling them on. :YMHUG:

I always keep lists of the meds schedules or I know I'd forget one. Having a multi-cat household can be challenging with different meds. Nice blues for Cinco today. I hope Sasha's continues to eat for you and Harvey gets good numbers next vetty visit.

Re: 10/9 Cinco PMPS 152 Test Run w/o Collar

Thanks for visiting, Liz, Ella, Molly, Amy and Shelly.

Actually, I do have checklists for the kitties' meds, and the DH's too! . I would have gone bonkers without them, when Cinco was on all those eye drops! The problem is that I'm down to just the one now and it's sitting on the counter next to all the kitties' meds and supplements and it just sort of blends in. I think I will try to set an alarm for the evening dose to help me remember - I really want to keep it at 12/12 if I can.

Cinco just hoovered up every bite of his dinner, plus the seconds I gave him and is happily washing his face. Yes, we are giving him a chance to prove he can behave with the collar off! Paws crossed - we really don't want to have to put it back on! T/f/s was soooo much easier without it! :-D

Sasha ate a good amount of her dinner, too - I actually put more on her plate than I intended to - and it was all without kitty crack!! Maybe, just maybe (anti-jinx), she's past that phase of things not tasting good? Please?
Tonight's selection was Dave's Gobbleeicious Gourmet Dinner, which was very popular, and it seems to be lower in fat than some of the other flavors I serve, so maybe that helps.

Amy, I have thought about being proactive with the pepcid and giving it once a day. I think I will try the bedtime dose. Harvey loves pill pockets, so he will be on board with that! Maybe I should give it at the same time I give Minka her pill, and that will help me remember! Another check list!

Ella, I like the personal assistant idea, but I don't think the budge would stretch to that! Maybe the pill timer is a better option... ;-)

Just checked on Cinco and he was washing that back leg a little to aggressively. I told him to stop and he did. Then I sprayed it with that hot spot stuff - he didn't much like that. We'll have to see how this goes. I may end up bandaging it like last time. Fun, fun, fun! I soooo want to leave that collar off!

Time to get started on the beans' dinner.
