A bright (in spirit, obvi, it's still very dark here lol) and very early good morning from Nashville! Today is our second day on insulin. Got his test done with only one ear poke this morning, which feels pretty good after yesterday's trials. Now Sherlock's grooming vigorously and I'm headed on for the day. Fingers crossed that DW is just as successful with her test when she wakes in a few hours with her work alarm.

Congrats on testing. A treat after is always in good taste. Looking forward to watching his progress.

Thank you! Do you have a recommendation on good treat options? I tossed the old stuff we were using since the carb numbers were crazy on them. We bought some little fancy feast chicken treats, but I'm sure he'd like variety.

I use vital essential dehydrated freeze dried raw currently the rabbit flavor. Chewy has them. I also use PureBites freeze dried chicken, PetSmart has them. Buying them in the dog aisle as it's larger package and cheaper than the tiny package in the cart aisle.

Any freeze dried is fine as long as the ingredient is only the meat protein.

Thank you again! I'll add it to the list. I'm hopeful that maybe treats will make him a little less cranky about being wrangled and poked more often now that we're using insulin. He's a pretty mellow kitty, but it never hurts to be prepared for an off day.

How is Sherlock doing? I hope the testing is getting easier for both of you! :cat:

Hey! So. Testing has gotten a lot better. Almost every test, I can get him on the first poke. His numbers are still pretty much the same, which is a little disappointing, but. My wife has reminded me that I don't need to get discouraged. We've just gotten started and it'll take time.

Oh, I'm so glad to hear things are better. I did take a peek at the spreadsheet and Sherlock is still running higher isn't he? The more experienced Lantus users can give you some input on that if you ask about it. When I first started testing, they told me to get as much testing data as I could. And if you can do a curve and enter that information, that would be really helpful. We were not great testers at first, oh boy, kind of like a circus act around here. But it got better, just like for you. Patience is the key, your wife is right (aren't all wives right? ;)) I have read so many times, "it's a marathon, not a sprint."
Many of the Lantus users post a thread every day with the BG readings to let the forum know how it's going. It might be helpful to you to do this and see what input you might get. Sometimes it's a group effort, and you have lots of support here.:cat:

Our goal was to do a curve this weekend, but we had some hiccups. We had a yard sale and Sherlock (and his brother) wouldn't come out all day, so testing was pretty tricky. Hopefully next weekend is better. We don't have plans on Saturday at all.

I guess I was feeling awkward putting up a daily post. That's probably silly, isn't it? He seems to be doing fine and I was worried about maybe cluttering things up for kitties that needed more attention. My biggest concern right now is just that his numbers haven't really budged. I'll get into a rhythm with it, though, if you think it'll help?

I do think it would help to post daily. Please don't feel awkward at all. Sherlock is just as important and it isn't cluttering. You and Sherlock are new on this "adventure" and I don't know about you, but every piece of advice or information I got here felt like winning the lottery. It's because of this board that Idjit is in remission, in spite of his uneducated bumbling bean parents. I am concerned about Sherlock's BG, he really isn't budging much and I really think some of the more experienced, knowledgeable members could offer suggestions. Also, if it's possible, more testing in the day, spot testing at different times, and perhaps whatever you can get at night, even a before bed test. Or, if you get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, and don't need 4 hands like we do, and Sherlock cooperates..grab a test.
For posting you just put the date, AMPS then edit the title with each test you get throughout the day. (10/13/18 AMPS 342, + 3 (3 hours after shot) 236, etc.
I hope the garage sale was successful! I know about cats hiding. We had our furnace serviced then the duct work cleaned. Idjit hid upstairs for the first and dashed out the door and stayed out all day for the second. Like we would let someone take our furkids! Hmmmph.

Daytime tests are tricky for us. I get his AMPS around 3 and then I head out shortly after. My wifey is not yet very confident on her own, though she did his +6 test tonight with my help. She handles their food again before she heads out for the day and then they're alone until I get home again in the 2 PM hour. That's when I get his PMPS, so. Night testing is definitely easier for us, but I'm hopeful we can slide some +3's in during the week once DW gets more confident with it.

Thank you for checking in! I'll get him up on the board tomorrow, after his AM shot. Then maybe someone will have thoughts on his numbers and why we aren't seeing a lot of movement yet.
