Shadow's 10/6 condo

Evening.....
I finally got someone else to scan the last 2 labs.... our printer/scanner isn't functioning properly and has to be uninstalled and re-done.

I also have had to postpone the ultrasound that was scheduled for this Friday.
It looks like the ineptocrat shutdown may be about to touch my town.
The lab seems to be posturing to send everyone home. My DH tells me not to spend any money we don't have to .....in case this goes longer than we can handle financially.
( which isn't very long for us)
So I will reschedule when it's over.
Fortunately Shadow is just being "finicky" mostly.
I did get a new food today to try....
Addiction Brushtail....
we never tried Brushtail before..... Shadow gobbled it down....
don't know if she likes brushtail ( its New Zealand possum) or if she liked it because it's 12% carbs. I tried to pick out the white chunks that look like potato in hopes to steal
a carb out of it.

labs are in backward order.

input welcome....
I worry a little about the Urine specific gravity.... as I mentioned a few condos ago.

Prayers for Gus-Gus.

Thank you for the prayers.

I think Shadow's bloodwork looks AMAZING!!!! Wow....you should be very happy with that!!!!

You said her USG is 1.030. Tanya's website says this about USG:
The normal range is 1.008 to 1.060, but a cat with a USG below 1.040 is generally considered to have a problem of some kind, and in a cat with normal bloodwork, it may be an early warning sign that CKD is developing.

Feeding her canned cat food with all the juice in it AND adding water will not affect her USG. Giving fluids likely will even if you only give 50 mls but it would be a short term effect unless one gives them every day as I do with Gus. Gus's USG hangs out at about 1.018 which is pretty darn good for a CKD cat getting 150 mls of LRS sid.

One thing to note is that "some" diabetic cats might have a lower USG. I am not certain why that is and I haven't seen it with Gracie.

So what would I do if I were you? I'd just try to feed foods a little lower in phosphorus because of Shadow's age and because renal disease affects a high percentage of cats as they age. I wouldn't go overboard but I'd try to do it. Her phosphorus right now is perfect.

And I'd probably do bloodwork every six months and just keep an eye on the renal values. Other than that....I wouldn't worry so much. I'd look at patterns and trends in her USG and just watch her blood renal values.

That makes me feel much better.
I am already trying my best to get her to eat the lower phosphorus foods..... I try to get at least one in daily.... so one meal good.... 3 meals not....
Of course, her favorite food is shrimp which isn't helpful with phosphorus, but I think it's better than the seafood variety canned foods....
She's most willing to eat the friskies special diet turkey giblets.... of all the lower phosphorus foods.

I am doing bloodwork every 6 months....

Thank you Marje!

So how the heck does the 'shutdown' affect the lab workers? Is your vet's lab a govt lab?

Funny on the New Zealand possum. I would think in pecking order the possum might eat the cat...although it may just be a standoff.
Does cat eat possum?

I need to read through your labs and still decipher ours..I think they may have some similar stuff..or possible stuff going on.
Ours got swept aside due to dental.
Marje is so darn smart and informative, isn't she? How do you get to be so darn smart?

I have never really watched phosphorous...at least not closely. I don't think most of what we feed has high phos.but one thing I did notice is venison being high. He likesd Instinct venison..but when I saw the phos didn't buy much of it. Plus it seems a bit rich for him...have had a little barfing after that one.

Hope her appy keeps up.
