hi, Nalas been blue and green today, Ive been reading and reading but getting quite confused..
any help would be appreciated.

Thanks... I might retest before bed.. and give her a reduced does.

The go low / go slow page suggests not shooting under 150? she is on 1.25

This is only her first full week of insulin, was on 1 unit till Friday when we went 1.5 that gave us low greens , then i think she bounced , so gave her .75 that night then 1.25 in the morning and 1.25 since then. she eating only wet low carb... eating drinking well, very social and happy.

Hi.

Since you are doing SLGs and are very new to this, I would skip the shot.

Normally we might suggest stalling, without feeding and testing again in 30 minutes, but this is pretty low. It's your option.

Refresh my memory, please - human or pet meter?

Hi, what are SLGs?

I think I'll skip it, gosh imagine if you never checked and just kept giving the same does day in day out.

Human meter

Thx

Here is a link to your last post. We ask that you link it each day so people can go back and see what has already been discussed.

SLGS is Start Low Go Slow. You mentioned it in your post so I assumed that is what you are following. We have two different methods here: Start Low Go Slow and Tight Regulation. If you are feeding any dry, which I don't think you are, you have to follow SLGS. The main difference between them is the BG at which you reduce. With SLGS you reduce if kitty goes below 90. With TR, for a newly diagnosed kitty, it's 50 - both on a human meter (which is why I asked).

Yes, scary, isn't it? This is why we strongly encourage home testing.

It would really help us to help you if you could add some info to your signature block, including your name (or what you want us to call you), where you live, Nala's age, weight and date of diagnosis. Any other meds or conditions? Kind of meter, and when you decide, whether you want to follow TR or SLGS. This will prevent our asking you the same questions over and over. Just look at a few other signatures to see what we include. If you don't know how to do it, just ask.

Here is a post we put together for new members to help them get familiar with this site and how to use it.

You mentioned feeding Iams chicken. Which kind is it? Grain free? That is 8% carbs, which is on the high end of Low Carb (LC) foods. Dr. Lisa has a great list that show the carb % in a lot of commercial canned foods. Not sure how many of these are available in New Zealand, but Bron and Darrah might be able to help you with that.

+13.5 still 66

thanks, yes alot to get your head around, with forum protocol too. I'll try and do my best and I'll sort out that signature info. Helen is my name. :)

I just went and read up on the TR . I wasn't following one or the other just found the info on SLGL first so went with that,

She is eating fancy feast chicken and liver, which i didi look up on the food chart and found its the best we can get here in NZ, i think.. but i hav eto mix it with her renal food. which is also wet. she hasn't had any of the renal today which i think is higher in carbs, but alot lower in phosphorous (which is ofcourse what she needs for the renal) maybe thas why shes still low, cutting out those carbs?

Is your profile kitty an Abby, looks a bit like mine :)

Yes, Harvey was an Aby. I lost him last September to kidney disease at 17 years of age. I also had a little female Aby, Sasha, that I lost in January of 2016. She was 15. I miss them both very much. Did you say Nala is 21? That's amazing!

Dropping the carb % of her foods can definitely help to bring her numbers down. Some of our Aussie members have had some success finding foods that are low carb and low phosphorus, and one of them, @Tara & Ivana, has put together a list. Here is the link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1BqzF_RCNZumwGazLP7Bk5NN-xwH54OsF0NqZZfnrtuI/edit#gid=0 You want to stay below 200 in the phosphorus column if you can, and below 10 in carbs. Hopefully the same foods are available to you that are to them.
