YESTERDAY'S CONDO:
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=126566

Max is still all over the place. My vet visit has not reassured me as I don't like his behavior. I also don't like his a few items on the blood panel. I hope my vet will make sense of it for me. I know elevated calcium can be a bad thing but I don't know how high it would be. I have thought for a long time that Max needs a little potassium but too high a level is not good either and it would need to be monitored. He has dropped before to 3.5 only to be back to 4 or 4.1 the next test.

My mom is not getting any better and we are extremely worried. Prayers appreciated. Thanks for the daily support.

Re: 10/8 MAX AMPS 163 LABS+2/274

So here's the question for your vet...

How much of the abnormal levels could be related to hypertension? Getting some of the weight off of Max could help to lower his blood pressure which, in turn, might drop some of the electrolyte levels. Did the vet get a urinalysis? These levels can be related to early kidney disease and some of the UA results can help sort that out. It doesn't sound like creatine or phosphorus were outside of the normal range, though.

Re: 10/8 MAX AMPS 163 LABS+2/274

sounds like he's barely outside of the normal range on those couple of tests. I hope you get some answers, elise.

thinking about you and your mom. :YMHUG:

Re: 10/8 MAX AMPS 163 LABS+2/274

Thanks Suenne and Julie. I posted all the labs for this week and April with his ss. His kidney he did have a urinalysis and it is posted as well his BP was high normal which slowing for stress Ihe felt was controlled. His USG is very well concentrated especially considering it was not the first catch of the day. Values were not done on a fast but we're approximate 6 hours after he ate so I am hoping that might explain some of the elevated numbers.

I spoke to my vet and he said we should run the tests again in a couple of weeks. He thinks they will be normal unless we caught something just as it was starting. He's such a nice man and not big headed like so many that I know. We also discussed lev again and I told him I will send him some spreadsheets to see why I am considering trying it. He was game for that as well.

My mom didn't go to the doctor today but will tomorrow and likely have an MRI. I just got back from there. She is exhausted and won't keep her eyes open but was awake. The physical therapist worked with her for a little bit and got her walking. I'm wondering if she is dehydrated and not at all sure that all of this is from the fall. nailbite_smile

I'm glad the vet didn't think there was anything to worry about immediately. Paws crossed for normal in the next BW. If you are collecting spreadsheets on the Lantus to Lev conversion, make sure you take a look at Ana's Bruno. She switched August 25th and is on day 13 of an OTJ trial. Bruno was a bouncy boy that liked the rainbow on Lantus.

Sending tons of vines for your Mom and hugs for you Elise. :YMHUG:

Re: 10/8 MAX AMPS 163 LABS+6/182 PMPS286 DO I SHOOT?

Poor Max. He just threw up some fur just as I was about to test him. He was in his testing place in the sink and I quickly had to get him out and standing. All I could think of was that he might aspirate. Of course he isn't interested in eating right now and it's time for his insulin. Do I shoot?

I'll copy the spreadsheets that you have mentioned. I also was going to show him Mikey and Cobb.

Update. I gave him a little baby food and he ate it so I will shoot now.

Thanks for the visits Anne, Wendy, Julie, Carla.

Re: 10/8 MAX AMPS 163 LABS+2/274+4/279+6/182 PMPS 286 SHOOT?

Poor Max, and poor you...I know you are so worried about both Max and your Mom. If it's any comfort, my civvie Frankie had her calcium at about 11, and my vet wasn't too concerned since it was just barely out of range. She did want to retest at some point, but she wasn't in a panic about it.

Can you stall a bit this evening to see if Max will eat anything before shooting? I'm not sure what to say...he is up there a bit so it would be nice to get some insulin going, but if he doesn't want to eat, you do have to worry about a drop (I'm sorry...I know that's not much help.)

Send prayers of all sorts you way :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: .

Re: 10/8 MAX AMPS 163 LABS+2/274+4/279+6/182 PMPS 286 SHOOT?

Hi Amy. We cross posted. I got him to eat a spoonful of baby food so I gave him his insulin. I REALLY didn't want to skip it because he has been high as you saw. After the shot he was wheezing a little. I hope he keeps the food down. He's not nauseous. He has been grooming a lot, in fact too much. Maybe stress from the wheezing? My vet wasn't concerned about the calcium either until I brought it up. He said if it stays where it is there is nothing to worry about. If he was acting normal I wouldn't be concerned. I feel better after talking to him and hearing that you have had the same experience.

I added up the calories Max is getting and now wonder he has gained weight. He will lose slowly now that I know this. I have to be real careful so he doesn't get fatty liver disease.

I'm glad he ate and you were able to shoot. Hopefully his tummy will settle quickly. You are so attentive, I'm sure you'll get his calorie count right so that he'll safely lose weight.

Thank you Amy. With the breathing issues it is a necessity. He ate the cat food I put out before the baby food as well. He's still well under his allotment for the day.
