Hi All,

Looks like I'm back, I took Bubby to the Vet today to confirm. I think we caught it early though. As I mentioned in yesterday's condo, Bubby has had some health issues this past year (I adopted him just over a year ago), really high temp and the Vet thought it was FIP. Really high eosinophils. Then issues with vomiting and diarrhea, the Vet thought it was food allergies (and still thinks so), serving a limited protein hypoallergenic food. U/S showed thickening of the intestines, stomach and bowels. He has been on a list of meds, including prednisolone, which I've been trying to wean him off of for a long time. Just started to notice increase thirst and urine output, some of which was that sticky kind. Ugh, not again!

We don't have a plan of attack yet, other than switching food, and starting insulin sooner rather than later. He talked about Lantus, Lev and PZI. Vet wants me to consult with an internal meds specialist. I am considering making his food now due to the allergies, will have to look for that recipe. I need to get a SS up and running, but I had a heck of a time trying to get it set up on my iPad, I think the laptop died. Lots of catching up and updating to do, and remembering how to do stuff.

On a happier note, Bubby is such a love, he likes to cuddle and knead, and purr. He fights with his meds, but he let me test his Bg without any fuss. I've also been giving Vitamin B12 injections without a problem, except that his skin is really really thick around the scruff.

I missed you all, but I had hoped that I wouldn't have to come back to join the dance again. I was not a good dancer. :?

Hugs,
Kathie

hi kathie! welcome back, but sorry you have to be here.

i'd go for Lev - we sure see a lot of success on it, and since you already have experience with it, it makes sense for you. I'd also get it started asap - 465 is awfully high.

you'll remember it all before long. kinda like riding a bike!

"Welcome" back Kathie! Bubby is in good hands with a well-experienced bean. I bet it's like riding a bike....you'll be back up to speed in no time.

Kathie, I'm sorry you have to be back, but you'll pick things up again in no time. Bubby is in good hands. How great to hear how loving he is. I'd post the food question in the subject line. I'm sure there has to be someone with some experience making their own food.

Hey Kathie and Bubby! Welcome Bubby! When I said don't be such as stranger, I really didn't mean THIS way! :-D

Did you find your patience pants mixed in with all that other extra sweet kitty stuff?

HUGS!

Hi Kathie - sorry you had to come back. :YMHUG: Welcome to sweet Bubby. Dr. Pierson has a recipe for making your own cat food here. If you want to go the unique protein route, there are lots of choices in raw food and a few in the canned. Deanna/Billie is trying a bunch out now to eliminate some allergies so you could try PM'ing her. Darin/Charlie is making his own raw from Dr. Lisa's recipe. Neko is on raw but I get it pre-manufactured and get some fairly unique proteins.

There's a Google Docs app for the iPad that you can use for the spreadsheet.

I agree with Julie, why not try Lev first. We'll help you knock the dust off the dance shoes in no time.

Hi Kathie,
Welcome back to LL to you and Bubby. I use the Google Drive app on my iPad. It works pretty well, even on my first-generation iPad. Just sign in with your Google ID and you will see all of your previous Google Docs, including your old spreadsheet. In order to edit your spreadsheet you will then also have to install Google Sheets from the iTunes store, but you will be directed there automatially.

If you go with Lev., you'll have lots of company.

Good luck!

Hi Kathie,
aww.... glad/sorry you are back. ( pick the one for the mood)

I'm dealing with thickened parts too.... altho' ours is likely lymphoma....
hope yours turns out to be much easier....

and no worries, you have lots of dance partners to help around here....

Thanks for the warm welcome back

Hi Julie, yes. I did tell the Vet that I used both Lantus and then switched to Lev, and that I was happy with it. We should make the decision tomorrow, and get him started on insulin.

Thanks Amy... I have to say, it was nice last night that I could confidently test. And I have been giving him Vitamin B injections, so I have continued to "practice"

Hi Carla, thanks for the warm welcome back. Hugs to Furball.

Lyresa, I know... I knew I was coming back before I even did the test last night. I had hoped that somehow it would be just the expired test strip... But I knew deep in my gut that it was diabetes.

Hi Wendy, thanks so much for the info. What brand of raw are you feeding? I might want to look into that as well. Thanks for offering to help dust off the dancing shoes.... I was trying to dust the cobwebs off the SS tonight, lol. I couldn't get it to work no matter what I tried, finally copied an old SS and just deleted the info. I think it's up and running now

Ella and Rusty  where do you find the conditional formatting in google sheets? No matter what I tried, I just couldn't get it to work. I did install the app for google sheets and google docs and even google drive. I finally gave up and used an old SS, just deleted the info in the cells.

Awww, hugs Rhiannon. I just re-read the U/S earlier today, it said that lymphoma was not noted. I will pray that yours is not either.

Hello!! Welcome back/sorry that you're back. I wasn't here yet when you were here last. I hope Bubby gets back on track soon!

Like Wendy mentioned, I have been living and breathing food allergies with Billie for the past month or so. She is on a novel protein now with Wild Calling rabbit. We went to a specialist, and I have done a lot of research on my own, and of course I got some great recommendations here. Feel free to PM me if you want to chat about food allergies! I have a list of limited ingredient options, so if you let me know what Bubby has been eating, I can list some ideas of low carb novel protein options to try. The best brands I have come across are Hound & Gatos and Wild Calling. Stay away from the prescription diets. Most are high carb and made with junk ingredients.

Good luck!! Sending lots of feel better vines to Bubby.

The brand of raw food I primarily feed is only available in Canada. It's called Red Dog, Blue Cat. But I can also get raw food here made in the US that has venison, pheasant, quail, rabbit, and duck, lamb, just to name a few novel proteins. Different ones I can get are kangaroo, wild boar, elk and I've even seen camel. Not to mention the freeze dried water buffalo treats.

Great to hear from you -- I just wish it was for a different reason.

There are also pre-mixes available. The pre-mix contains all of the supplements you need to add for a raw diet. I linked the one that I used when I was feeding raw.

Hi again,
To answer your question about the Google "complex", I have to say that I have not created a new spreadsheet on my iPad in the Google Drive/Sheets app, only added data to the current one. Perhaps they can help you in the Tech Forum. Or maybe Marje can help. She has set up spreadsheets for many of the new people here.
In the future, when you use your old spreadsheet as a template, first make a copy. Then delete the data from the copy, rename the copy, and use it as your new spreadsheet. That way you will still have all of the data in the old one (which may come in handy at some point). While you are at it, make a copy of the new, pristine template and label it "template". Then you will be able to use it to start a new one in January 2015 and in subsequent years, if needed. (But, of course, we are hoping that Bubby will be OTJ by then and won't need it!).

Good luck!

Ella & Rusty
