Good Morning, Everyone,

After yesterday's shock-a-roo (sorry about that!) we're off to start the new day with a resolution always to check an edit!!!!!

Cold here again this morning (32 degrees F.) with sunshine just breaking through the trees. Edward and I are going on a short paddle with our friends to a lake where the adult loons gather at this time of year to begin their migration to the ocean. If we're lucky, we'll see this gathering (called "rafting" ). (The chicks don't migrate with the adults: they stay around a few more weeks and then migrate--by instinct, since they have never done it before-- to the ocean off the mid-Atlantic coast, where they stay for 5 years before coming back to the fresh-water mountains to breed.) Loons have the same partner for life and always return to "their" lake or pond for the summer. They are really wonderful--ancient-- birds. They are a protected species and we have "loon counts" here every summer. Because of the flooding in the early summer, many feared that there would not be as many chicks this year (nests built at the water's edge in high water would have been too far back from the water when it receded). But that seems not to have been the case. Hooray!

Rusty, of course, will not come to see loons today. He'll maybe be lucky and see the squirrel or chipmunk this afternoon when we get home. We had a good night (after the yellow bedtime test), pretty good number this morning, good shot (I think; but Edward thought he caught a whiff of Levemir), and breakfast in 2 1/2 sittings. Rusty is now on his perch above the radiator.

Everyone have a good Friday and good beginning of the double-holiday weekend (Columbus Day and Canadian Thanksgiving).
Continuing to send healing vines to our kitties in need of them, and thoughts of comfort to Patti & Joe, Emily, and Marje & Mike.

Nice start today, I hope the shot was good! Paws crossed!!! Have fun on you paddle! I always loved listening to the loons.

Rusty! "Rusty, of course, will not come to see loons today. " That's what she thinks!!! We got the kitty canoes all ready, I bet we beat them there, but shhhhh! we don't want the beans to know! -- Tess

Morning Ella and a nice AMPS for the gorgeous Rusty. That sounds like a really nice day you and Edward have planned with a paddle and watching the adult loons begin their migration to the ocean. Have a wonderful time. We'll have to pick up Rusty today and do something fun.

Re: 10/7 Rusty AMPS 152

sounds like a purrrrfect plan for a Friday! hope you see many loons - my first go-away-to-camp was at Loon Lake here in Oregon. beautiful place, beautiful sounds. i didn't know all of that about loons though - very interesting.

glad i missed the inadvertent rainbow! my heart sinks when i see it and sometimes newbies put it on for "pretty" without knowing what it means here.

Re: 10/7 Rusty AMPS 153, +9 84, PMPS 234(!)

Hi Everyone,

Rusty did make green, but then he shot up to 234! I sure don't know what is happening with him. Where did his good, even cycles go? Aside from the weird numbers, he is fine.

We had a great paddle. When we arrived at Lake Clear there were 33 loons rafting: speaking softly to one another. We paddled around the lake and up it's outlet and then back to the beach we started from. The loons were gone and we didn't see them again after we started to paddle. I think they might have been ready to begin the migration this morning and that they just took off. We were so lucky to see them. My sister is coming to spend the weekend with us and we are going to take her to that lake on Sunday. Then we'll know whether or not the loons have left, or if they just moved to another part of the lake today.

Rusty ate all of the food in his automat and enjoyed some outdoor time when we got home in the mid afternoon. We were sitting outside in the sun when we had visitors: a couple from Rochester. He had grown up in our house (he visited us once last year and gave us some really interesting pictures of the house in the 1950s), and they were in our village visiting relatives. So we had a nice chat. But then I had to do everything I had planned to do this afternoon this evening! (Bake cookies for the Columbus Day paddle and picnic on Monday; get the guest room ready for my sister; do some needed shopping, etc.). I've finished for today and am going to veg out in front of the TV!

Hope all is well in LL and that everyone will have a good holiday weekend.

Oh Ella...I think Rusty and Boo and Stella, and KT must all be drinking the same water! These crazy sways are something!

How nice that your sister is visiting....I hope your weekend is relaxing and filled with laughs!

Re: 10/7 Rusty AMPS 153, +9 84, PMPS 234(!)

Ella: thank you so much for keeping us in your thoughts.

Gosh I wish someone could help figure out what is going on....he has always been so steady and even....the best SS in LL!! I'm hoping it was a fur shot today and just a delayed reaction although the green doesn't fit that scenario.

What a day you all had. That is so incredibly interesting about the loons and I'm so happy for you that you saw them. You were really busy today!!! Tobey wants to know if you are baking cinnamon cookies for CD? That boy....

Stay warm.....big hugs.

Hi again,
I'm pretty sure it wasn't a fur shot. Both shots today seemed fine to me. I guess it's Rusty himself. Maybe his dose is too high. Or maybe he's becoming insulin intolerant. Or maybe we ought to switch to Lantus and see if we get better results.

Anyway, Rusty seems just fine. It's just his numbers that are out of whack!

Ni ni,

Ella & Rusty
