Happy Friday dancing_cat

Hope everyone is doing well  Thoughts and vines to those who need them :YMHUG:

I sent Dr. B a video of Mr Troublemaker's newest issue: gasping/panting/lip smacking for no apparent reason @-) I think this is like the fourth time Leroy has done this in the past few months. All Leroy was doing at the time last night was sitting in the hallway. The previous one was maybe a week or so ago and Leroy was just following me out of the bedroom. I should hear back from Dr. B later today. It doesn't sound like the asthma Squishy had and I don't think asthma would cause lip smacking. Leroy is otherwise bcatrun_gif x 100000000.

That actually sounds really scary! Does his gums/tongue stay nice and colourful? Does he look scared by it?

I hope you find out what is going on. Hugs to you.

Oh yes, I hope there is nothing serious going on either .. lip smacking is usually a sign of nausea in cats, but not sure where the panting/gasping come into play .. hope you hear from the vet soon!

Tongue and gums stay pink confused_cat Leroy isn't scared when he does that weird thing. He just does it and then walks away like nothing had happened  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9IV20lTnqk

I hope Dr. B didn't take an extra day off for the long weekend nailbite_smile Monday is Columbus Day here in the US.

well that does look weird. what's up leroy? i have no idea, but will be curious to hear what the vet says.

the only thing that comes to my mind is our pediatrician telling me once that 3 year olds have all kinds of tics. one of my kids was doing something odd, now i don't even remember what, and that was the doc's answer to it. he was right - whatever it was they stopped doing it. perhaps leroy has developed a tic?

i'm going to finish those quilt labels today for my great-aunt's and my grandma's quilts. tomorrow i have to deliver the quilts to the show in Portland. i know i promised pics and haven't gotten them done yet. hopefully later today.

Hmm... maybe it's a tic.

When it started last night, before I got it on video, Leroy sounded like an overexcited dog  You know how some dogs start panting excitedly and make snuffling noises? Emma must think Leroy is a weirdo

perhaps she's right! but we love our weirdo kitties!

anya's on my lap right now and i was just thinking this morning how she likes to have her head stretched out and hanging off of something. funny how every cat has little particular things they love.

So true  Even defective cats, like Sqiushy was with his health issues, are loved :-D

Emma does that, too  She'll be on the tree but half her body will be hanging off. If she's on the top of the tree and Leroy wants that spot (apparently it's his spot), he'll start bugging her and try to get her to whack him. Usually when Emma does whack him, she loses balance and falls right off  Leroy is a sneaky bugger

So hoping Leroy is ok!!!! It's good to hear he's ok afterwards but still that gasping/panting is somewhat worrisome!

Hope it's ok but thought I'd post update on Fiona here..
Trying to stay positive - the lung mass was adenosquamous carcinoma with vascular invasion - highly aggressive malignant tumor altho they feel that they got it all. Waiting on a call from the oncology vet now. sigh.....WE knew one day we would face losing them all as they are all older pets but so many so close together - She is still Fiona - talking and letting us know she has lots to say!

((((((Patti))))) I'm so sorry about the diagnosis. You have an attitude that will help her fight this. She is still Fiona. Every single day we have with them is a gift. I lost Maverick with no real expectation at a routine vet appt. I would give anything to have just one more day. But I almost lost him once two and a half years before losing him and I treasured every day with him. It's not how long we have with them, but appreciating them while we have them. Sending lots of hugs for you today and healing vines for Fiona. I love her name.

So hoping he is alright....watched the video but from your description it doesn't sound like that is the whole story. Wondering if it is a partial complex seizure? Course it could be anything and a vet work-up is needed.

Have any of you been following the fashionista on catster?

ohmygosh that fashionista on catster . . . don't even know what to say. even the people around here don't dress like that - but i have to remember that oregon is almost another country.

(((((patti)))) from 2000-2003 we had 12 healthy pets: one dog, 2 cats, 3 rabbits & 6 guinea pigs. our dog died in 2003 at the age of 15, and then in 2007 we lost 10 of the rest - all at the end of their lives, nothing else. it was terrible. punkin is the last of when we had 12, but to have all of them go that year was so hard. i hope fiona is better quickly. hold onto the doc's thoughts that they got it all. many, many hugs.

Patti - BIG HUG - I am so sorry about Fiona's diagnosis. I hope the surgery removed all of the tumor and she recovers. Thinking of you and Joe and Fiona.

at first i thought he looked like he was burping or trying to dislodge something in his throat but then i wasn't sure. when he's doing the smacking and then the exaggerated swallow, i've seen some of mine do that when they're working on a hairball. like they'll do the hairball cough, then smack smack, exaggerated swallow, walk away. but his open mouth and stuff i haven't seen, other than with Fuji and that's a whole other situation

i can say i don't like it. it would make me a bit uneasy too

Well if it is a stuck hairball....best to get some X-rays. It can't come up and can't come out the other end...?

i thought it could be a hairball too, although i haven't seen the lick lipping with hairballs. doesn't mean that it's not possible, of course. except he's not in the "hairball position" that i've seen other cats get it while they're trying to bring one up.

Unlikey it's hairballs. Leroy doesn't even groom himself  Stuff comes out his other end just fine. Emma horks up the occasional hairball and she crouches doing that. Leroy will even do this while standing, like he did last time.

No response from Dr. B yet :? I may still get one tonight. Dr. B tends to work late. Appointments end at 8pm and he might check on patients in the wards before heading out unless some emergency comes in. And I know he's in tomorrow.

Why do I always have pets with mystery problems? @-)
