Good afternoon, everyone.

Yesterday’s post.

I’m late posting today bc I went to the Rock Allegiance festival yesterday and didn’t get home til late, so after I got up to feed everyone and give meds I went back to bed and slept in pretty late. I’m glad I went because I think I needed to get out, and Frosty is stable right now so this was the time to go. I had VIP tix which were pretty expensive. At first I tried to sell them but couldn’t get anyone to buy. But anyway, it ended up being a great show.

Frosty is doing OK. He’s still weak and less active, but is meowing at me and eating. Not like before, but better than when he feels sick.

I changed his dressing yesterday before i left. Instead of multiple pieces of gauze that would shift and cause leakage I used an ABD pad and that seemed to have worked really well. No fluid leaking from dressing as far as I can see today. I also used wider stretchy wrap and covered his whole abdomen so the whole contraption doesn’t slide up. It’s holding for now so I’ll try to do the same tomorrow. I’m trying to do every other day dressing changes because the area is clean and I wanna keep it that way, and also that gives us both a break from a stressful situation.

Last night the pet sitter came and gave him his insulin and he did fine and took all his meds. The only one she didn’t give was the appetite stimulant so I’ll resume that today. It’s a liquid and I didn’t want her to give it to him bc he hates it, he makes lip smacking noises and tries to spit it out. My poor guy.

I’m wondering whether to increase his insulin to 2.25. That’s the dose he was on before this nightmare started a month ago. He had some nice blues 3-4 nights ago but since then seemed to have been hanging in the 200s. Some high 100s today, but we are also using a human meter now which means he’s actuwlly higher.

On one hand, we started Vetoryl this week so he could be going lower in the future. But on the other, I don’t rly want him above the renal threshold bc he’s now taking lasix and he’s peeing and drinking so much! I don’t want hyperglycemia to exacerbate this.

Please advise. @Wendy&Neko tagging you for some input ;)

Oh, also! A colleague of mine is looking for a home for her mother in law’s 13 year old cat. She’s moving and had to give away all her pets after her husband died - financial issues, very difficult situation. I want to help but as you know, it would be a terrible idea for me to take on a 5th pet given what Frosty and I are dealing with right now. Please see my post in community forum for more information, and let me know if anyone is interested or can help. http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/healthy-13-year-old-cat-for-adoption-in-nj.204356/ Thank you ❤️

I think Frosty doesn’t want the increase, since he gave me a PMPS or 148. I wish this board would enable emojis because I would love to put the shrugging one right here.

The other thing I’m wondering about is the potency of this pen. I only gave maybe 15 units left in it and ive left it out a lot in the last 2 weeks with everything going on. I know humans leave the pen out after it’s open and it’s usually good for a month so I honestly doubt it has anything to do with it, but maybe we will start a new pen soon.

I guess we will stick to 2 units for now and see how he does.

Ha, it never ceases to amaze me how much things work out that way. Lou's been having so many high numbers, and today when he's not eating as well, he decides to hang out in the lagoon. Definitely reminds me who leads in this sugar dance. I'm so happy you made it to the Rock Allegiance festival. I had to look it up and it seemed like a fun show. He seems to handle the bandages well overall. Does he easily let you put them on or does he fight you each time? I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see Frosty doing well, even if he's not 100%. Many hugs to you and vines to sweet Frosty. :bighug:

Agree with Amanda - it is good you were able to get out and enjoy some time off with the GAWDS of ROCK (spoken in a deep bass radio voice). I like rock too.

I'm glad Frosty is eating. That was the biggest issue for awhile. And it is so hard to deal with. We see a lot of that in the forum.

Best of luck with the cat adoption for the relative. I hope someone provides a good home for the kitteh.

Do you have another cartridge? You might consider trying it if you really think the potency of the current one is down, but as long as it is clear and has no floaties in it, I doubt it's bad. Perhaps it's time to try 2.25, but only if you are able to monitor - and from your SS I'd guess that means you need to wait till next weekend.

I'm glad you found a bandaging strategy that seems to work. You are in such a tricky situation, and you handle it so well. :bighug:
